Haha! The Tuesday Morning in Missoula closed within the first few months after we moved here, late in 2012, so I never got to really take advantage/abuse it. I was always jealous of the crafty scores I saw from TM, but nearly every time I had gone to one when I traveled there were no craft supplies for me.
Just some of the shoe/photo box notion storage. I had some of these already in use, and just added more. No new purchases!
these are far more attractive than my sewing room shoeboxes. ![]()
I taught my child how to crochet more than just a chain & sheās been making eyeballs & tiny holiday ornaments using up the tiny fabric scraps that are too small/worn/annoying to sew with for stuffing.
Great idea teaching someone else to use up bits and bobs!
I bought these boxes ages ago after they were all the rage and on big discount. Would love some more, but I will probably just cover some shoe boxes with contact paper or wrapping paperā¦or not.
I use those same boxes. I think they were originally intended to store photos. I was using them to store WIP projects, but as I started completing WIPS, I now have about six of them empty!
I recently turned one into storing spices and supplies for baking. I do so little of that and did not want to give kitchen cabinet space to them. I store the entire box in a hall closet where I also store other baking things like cookie cutters, cooling racks, etc. Easily accessible and organized but not in the way.
@Trillian I seem to respond well to destashing one particular supply. I find that I get in a groove and then want to make everything I can with the one thing. I recently destashed a thrifted wool sweater by making everything I could think of with that one thing. I could probably spend hours destashing a whole lot of various scraps: paper, fabric, thread, etc. I like your idea a lot!
We took a bunch of stuff to the creative reuse place and goodwill last week. I have such a hard time parting with art supplies even if I know I wonāt use/donāt like using them so this was huge for me. Itās so nice to have a little breathing space in my studio. And the woman at the creative reuse place was very happy about my donation ![]()
I made 15 crocheted baskets one year to get rid of random yarn. They were so popular I had to scrounge yarn from donations and thrift shops. Now I am back to too much random yarn. Still making baskets though. They are popular at our curch holiday fair.
We have to be careful that our destashing doesnāt turn into ending up getting more stuff to make. It can be a sneaky outcome! ![]()
I destashed a few things last week to a girl at the church holiday fair! Sheās a girl with Downās Syndrome and she is raising money for charity by selling her handmade items. I happened to have a few things in my stash that she clearly used (diamond painting cards). She was very happy with them and I was very glad to get rid of them! I was gifted a couple of diamond painting card kits by a friend over the years and itās just not my thing at all. I didnāt throw them away because I felt a bit guilty, they looked like they were quite expensive.
I got a serger, so I have acquired quite a lot of stash recently (the serger, serger feet, serger thread on cones, multiples too, a box for thread cones ) but I have also picked all my knit scraps out of my stash to try the machine. The smaller scraps are great for fiddling with different stitches and settings and I hope to sew a few quick camiās or something from the bigger scraps. I hate knit scraps so I hope to get rid of all of them. Theyāre far less versatile than cotton or denim scraps.
4 more hats completed. And I have one more on my needles that Iām hoping to squeeze in before the year end:
341 grams used. Not sure of yardage because some of yarn was not labeled.
Finished the last one that was on my needles just in time to count for 2025.
84 grams / 163 yards used.
A little bit late but the 2026 DeStash-Along has been posted here.
This belongs in 2025 but I just finally rearranged & opened all the bins. These 2 large ones are ALL the fabric stash I currently have, not including scraps in 6 of the canvas hanging baskets in the background. Quite a bit of the fabric is designated for projects too, and whatās not is stuff that came to me & isnāt precious so I may not even keep it.
Wow. Wow. My non-sewing sister has 10 times more fabric than me! Itās stored in my basement though so Iām still hoard adjacent ![]()
Is possession 9/10th of the law hoard?
But seriously⦠only 2 totes of fabric!? Impressive.
My crafting focus is in transition so I really should go through my fabric stash and do some purging. But with Joannās gone Iām scared to let things go. (This way madness lies, but here we are)
That fear is valid! Itās a lot harder now to acquire good fabric in person for a lot of people now that Joannās is gone.
I continue to work on destashing my yarn into projects
Though Iām very close to giving some pink yarn away as itās not my color, and Iām having a hard time finding uses for it otherwise. That being saidā¦.I did get some christmas yarn money and have bought some more yarn for future sweaters haha. But of the 2 types of yarn, 1 at least has a plan for it (presuming the yarn works outā¦)
Iām working on my yearly craft stats and need a place to dump them, so here goes!
Sewing: I made 60 (tiny) doll dresses, using up approximately 2.25 yards of fabric (of which 4-ish prints were used up). This also accounted for two spools of thread, two sheets of 24-count snaps, and a spool of ribbon.
Stationery: I didnāt do much on this front, but still used up three journals, 5 rolls of washi tape, 4 vinyl stickers, 10 sticker packs, 21 stickii club sticker sheets, 13 mini sheets, and 5 sheets of random stickers. Writing implement wise I used up two ink samples, 8 refill cartridges, and 4 miscellaneous pens & fine liners.
Knitting/Crochet: I didnāt make much and only one project was from stash I had on hand at the beginning of 2025, and it was a one skein project to boot.
Paper Products: My main focus of the year was bookbinding and I made 45 in various sizes. Between that and a few protest signs I used up 25 sheets of regular scrapbook paper, 45 sheets of decorative 12x12 cardstock, 10 sheets of solid 12x12 cardstock, 17 8.5x11 solid cardstock pages, and a mini 6x6 scrapbook pad. I never did figure out a good metric for measuring book cloth or boards.
All these stats are mostly for navel gazing but I do find it helpful to keep track of how much I use in a year. It provides a bit of perspective when the itch to acquire new supplies strikes. For instance, even crafting at a (for me) breakneck pace this last year I only used up the equivalent of one scrapbook paper pad, and I definitely added a lot more than one of those to my stash during that same time period.
This is an eye-opening perspective of suppies vs. ability to use suppliesā¦
I track fabric and yarn only by if there is room in the bins I use to store them inā¦and so far, they all still seem pretty full!
I plan of reassessing my stash the remainder of January in my quest to purge supplies that I no longer and interested in pursuing or fabrics that have languished at the bottom of the bins for decades!
My supply of denim and linen will be tamed 2026!
