An Oxford Birthday Card

I made my niece an extra fancy birthday card recently to celebrate her acceptance to attend classes at Oxford University this summer. I’m super proud of her, this has been a dream of hers for many years.

I picked the main colors, gold & dark blue, based on the colors of the specific college she’ll be attending.

Some fun elements included are both heat and folder embossing, gold solar paste gently rubbed over the raised embossed pattern, and a thin & fiddly gold filigree inner frame. It feels more formal than my usual jam, but appropriate for acceptance to a fancy pants University in the UK.

Lots of dimension, layers and tiny flowers are my jam though, and I was pleased to find a way to add lots of those.

This was a fun card to make and she loved it, so mission accomplished, yay!

Wow!! This is gorgeous!!

So, how exactly does one get on your greeting card list? Asking for a friend….

Another gorgeous card, my friend! You really nailed making something that’s not quite your jam into something that is clearly made by you.

That card is a work of art! I love all the textures and details, they work beautifully together.

I’ve been eying solar paste for a while but haven’t picked any up yet. I have some gold Kuretake paste my family bought me for Mother’s day so I should probably play with that first.

Stunning! I love the thought behind every decision on the card.

This reminds me of the stylings of a really popular restaurant here in my town called McMenamins. Their decor is just as cool as your card.

Yes, totally looks like McMenamins vibe.

Thank you! I hadn’t heard of Kuretake paste, but I’ve just looked it up and wow - it’s really lovely, it has such a pretty, soft glow-y quality. I was mistaken in my post, the gold rubbing on the embossing wasn’t Solar Paste, it’s the Lunar Paste (by Simon Hurley/Ranger), pretty similar though. I only have a few, but I’m a big fan of his line of pastes.

Thank you! I’ve been to the McMenamins in Portland (The Kennedy School) - oh man, I loved that place, it’s a feast for the eyes, thank you for the comparison, that made my day!

Oh very cool! Yeah, if you are ever back in the area, hop across the river and visit the one on the Columbia River in WA.

@Lisasteatime @stitchandstones I’ve only been to the one in McMinnville. I had no idea there were so many locations.
