I made my niece an extra fancy birthday card recently to celebrate her acceptance to attend classes at Oxford University this summer. I’m super proud of her, this has been a dream of hers for many years.
Some fun elements included are both heat and folder embossing, gold solar paste gently rubbed over the raised embossed pattern, and a thin & fiddly gold filigree inner frame. It feels more formal than my usual jam, but appropriate for acceptance to a fancy pants University in the UK.
That card is a work of art! I love all the textures and details, they work beautifully together.
I’ve been eying solar paste for a while but haven’t picked any up yet. I have some gold Kuretake paste my family bought me for Mother’s day so I should probably play with that first.
Thank you! I hadn’t heard of Kuretake paste, but I’ve just looked it up and wow - it’s really lovely, it has such a pretty, soft glow-y quality. I was mistaken in my post, the gold rubbing on the embossing wasn’t Solar Paste, it’s the Lunar Paste (by Simon Hurley/Ranger), pretty similar though. I only have a few, but I’m a big fan of his line of pastes.
Thank you! I’ve been to the McMenamins in Portland (The Kennedy School) - oh man, I loved that place, it’s a feast for the eyes, thank you for the comparison, that made my day!
