I definitely think the dirt method is better. I didn’t consider the heat, however. I’m might have to move them to a warmer spot in the house 
I’ve read that plants can make three kinds of specialized roots, for air, water, or soil.
Roots grown in water take time and energy to adapt to soil, so you’ll have a healthier plant if you root in your final growing medium.

Cool! I never knew that! Glad I’m giving them a better start. In my house, plants need all of the help they can get
