All 6 of mine are finished! I love, love, love them.

I was reading through the questionnaire again and stumbled across these options:

How do I sign up for all if I don’t know how many will be joining?

For now I plan making 6 cards but maybe I decide making more while I’m crafting

In past years there have been between 10-15 participants.
And as people sign up I will list names on the 2nd post in this thread so closer to the sign up deadline you’ll be able to see how many people have signed up so far.

I almost finished my cards. I’ll try to sign up tonight or tomorrow.

Random question:

How to you celebrate the holidays? Are you celebrating Christmas or another holiday? Are you celebrating it as a religious holiday or more like a family get-together? And on what day are you celebrating in your country?

I don’t think I’ll have anything for this swap but I do have an interesting answer to your question…

Christmas is a community holiday for me here. Those specific activities happen in community events. (And where I live in the Southwest USA is very into Christmas!) Winter Solstice is a holiday I share with close family like my mom, brother, kids. We are also far away from each other so we send cards and gifts now. My husband has a hard time with holidays though, so I decorate the bike shop, but we do nothing just between us except celebrate my birthday on Christmas Eve.

But, as a kid with divorced parents and a very extensive family to visit on one side and a birthday in the middle of it all, winter holidays were more like a traveling circus.

In my country, all Christian holidays are two days! It’s because in the Dutch Reformed Church was historically the biggest church in my country, and they ban people from travelling on Sundays and religious holidays. So every religious holiday comes with a ā€œsecond day ofā€ so people can travel back home.

I was raised Catholic so our traditions are very different, and the vast majority of Protestants don’t believe in super strict Sunday rest anymore either, but everyone likes extra days off. It’s ideal for people with divorced parents, too. We celebrate Christmas on three days: Christmas Eve, first day of Christmas, second day of Christmas.

We usually host friends for Christmas Eve. We have several friends who don’t have anywhere to go for Christmas. It’s the most relaxed day of Christmas. Then we spend one day with my parent + siblings, and the other day we try to find time for my in-laws. My in-laws are very involved in their Church so some years their schedule is so packed they can’t fit us in and we meet them in the days after Christmas.

I like to go to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, we did that growing up, too. I really loved it as a kid, the smell of incense, the choir, going out way after bedtime, seeing my grandparents there, the nativity. The traditional post-Mass foods afterwards (hot chocolate and sausage rolls). We live quite near a church so I do still try to go. Mr. Imma doesn’t care for it though, so I go alone, which means I don’t go every single year. His childhood experience of church was different than mine unfortunately.

When we meet with family, my in-laws are slightly more formal than my family, but we aren’t fancy people. We get together, share food, look at family pictures, avoid difficult subjects. Most of our family members don’t show up in a tracksuit but it’s not exactly red carpet style either. Our food is a bit more fancy than normal. More ā€œtwo desserts instead of oneā€ than ā€œchampagne, oysters and caviarā€.

In my country, people give gifts on St. Nick (December 5) not Christmas, so we get to skip that part. That’s more of a children’s holiday, not really a big thing between adults, we haven’t celebrated it in decades. There’s a baby on the way in my family so we might pick it up again next year though. Because we don’t give gifts on St. Nick, I do try to give my family members a few nice handmade things at Christmas. We don’t celebrate birthdays either due to divorce / family stuff so if it wasn’t for Christmas I’d never be able to give them anything.

Then, my extended family gets together on the second weekend of the New Year usually. Not the first because everyone is tired of parties

Alrighty…I am now totally confused. Is this swap for 2025? I thought it was since it was in the feautred headliner. When I read the first post, the dates are everywhere from 2022 to 2024. I was just getting ready to sign up, but did I miss it?
