That is truly wonderful! It looks dimensional. The painting is so well done. What is the substrate? I just love the peaks on the roof.
Love the colors and style of artwork! It pops and looks 3D!
I’m glad you like it, @goatgoddesss !
@AIMR thanks! Its a couple layers of cardboard painted the back with acrylic paint. I then used paint markers for all the neon. They’re pretty cheap markers so I had to go over parts multiple times.
And I outlined some details with a felt tip pen.
@marionberries got her house and I’m excited about what I did so I had to post! I found a bunch of pictures from magazines I felt would look good in bottles that I then cut out! Then I cut out corks from construction paper. I added the labels and highlights with paint markers and gel pens. The lady is a picture from a 70s knitting book that I altered. It worked great to just color in her yellow sweater with an alcohol marker and you can still see all the shadows. I added black details with a felt tip pen including the wings on her eyeliner and her nails. I also cut out the sign, roof, and hat from construction paper.
Every year I love seeing all the fun, chunky houses. Each one is so darn cool. I may have to cave and join next year.
Thank you for posting @RagingSloth. I can only post pictures on my laptop, not from my phone. And I was to tied up in a Trunk or Treat costume and prop frenzy to even turn the thing on.
I love the apothecary, so many little bottles of wicked goodness, and that witch is just the height of fashion! I have two apothecary houses now, and each is so unique and fun. One for each end of the village. You never want to be too far from your friendly neighborhood apothecary!
Thank you so much.
No worries! I figured you had a lot going on! I’m glad you like it!
You need to!
@marionberries really scored this year with two apothecary bottle houses! Wow…you cut our all those images? The witch lady is wonderful. The skewed roofline is also a wonderful touch.
@Tapestry I am blown away each each year. So many ways to do a Chunky Halloween House! With your many skills, you would enjoy this one for sure!
Thank you! ![]()
Here is the house I got from @Reese52. She nailed so many things in my questionnaire!
Witches. Pumpkins. Haunted House. Bats. Black Cat. And, there is even a spooky Tree!
But, there is also a nice surprise…it lights up!
Here it is on my bookcase ready for the other houses to join it when I decorate tomorrow!
Thanks a lot. I am delighted to receive one of your lighted houses!
Glad you like it! I didn’t realize how many of your likes where added in this house. I used the orange lights from the windows and of course the pumpkin. Dark skies so not for stars, also the lights I had were orange. I like that it’s a bit different from last year’s that I made.
Here’s a photo where you can really see the pumpkin light up.
Is there or will there be a tutorial? I adore the fact that it lights up, great job!
Yes, I can provide a more detailed post about this. I can try and do a tutorial with step by step photos, but I will have to make another one to show the steps. That will take a bit of time, but I can probably make one before Halloween for myself.
The piece is also layered. The witch stands out from the background and then the pumpkin stands out from the witch. The battery box in back and the pumpkin in front allows the piece to stand on its own. It is well thought out! I love it!
@AIMR I like how the battery box serves as a stand. The pumpkin does help as well. Originally, the pumpkin wasn’t going to be part of it until I started working on the second house. I had to take something apart and the pumpkin was “leftover” of the particular park I needed. It was the exact same pumpkin pictured as the witch holding it. I think have it more 3D affect.
Orange is my favorite color so you got that as well! I did notice the pumpkin on your tutorial post and thought “Did she paint it on and then added the pumpkin?” It is the same pumpkin!!! So two pumpkins, one hidden!
Yes, I added the plastic one much later.
so many cool houses - love them - so many different takes
There wasn’t a story behind the snake with a hat other than I thought it would be funny. Snakes get a bad rap. What if one just wanted to go to a party?
