Perhaps, with any luck, the “is the dishwasher clean or dirty?” questions shall now cease. Pipe dream? Perhaps. But one can hope the kids will just empty the darn thing before putting dirty dishes in it… If not, at least I got craft time out of it
I used the August item from the Arts & Crafts Club from the 2026 Camp Nerd Games to create this magnetic sign.
First I painted the wood plank with black gesso using a paint knife.
Then I salvaged 4 magnetic buttons that my daughter unearthed from her room that were destined for the trash; nobody remembers what these had been for/from. I attached them with hot glue.
This looks great! But yes, the fam may still need training to use it.
I got a clean/dirty magnet from @Bunny1kenobi in STS one year, but my husband and son still ask me. (And it’s definitely partly my fault for forgetting to flip it!)
Re: training the kiddos to use the magnet: the magnet is mostly for my own use so instead of asking me, they read the sign
Unfortunately the sign doesn’t stay on the door because this is a very old dishwasher and the spring for the door is gone (already replaced twice; the dishwasher needs to go at some point), so even when we guide it, it opens a little too violently. Fortunately, it has that bottom part that is stationary, so that is where the sign lives now, and it’s staying put.
