Wow, you did an amazing job, @Imnatari.
Also, a warm welcome to Lettuce Craft!

Title: New pattern test!
Masks for: Mr. Road/BIL
Pattern Link to Share: https://www.prettyhandygirl.com/best-fit-face-mask/
Notes on pretty handy girlās pattern - LOVE this one. It take a little longer to make, but I think itās worth it. I used her suggestion of coffee ties for the nose clip and @MistressJennieās suggestion of t-shirt yarn for the adjustable ties. Passed the fit test with both Mr. Road and my BIL, and doesnāt fog up glasses (at least with short term wear)!!
Forgot to mention that @AIMR suggested some elements of this pattern a while back - namely the adjustable ear straps. I was impressed with some of the other suggestions/modifications in the video, and decided to give the pattern a try. Thank you for sharing always!
The underwire in bras is actually steel boning, not actually wire despite the name. Similar to what would be put in corsets, only narrower and pre-shaped into curves rather than straight bones. Itās flat, but about 1/8" wide, and the ends have been ground to rounded edges, and are usually ātippedā with something called ātipping fluidā, which is a liquid when the pieces are dipped into it, but dries like a thick rubbery kind of paint on the ends. That helps keep the ends from wearing through the channel of fabric sewn into bras, for the wires to sit inside of. Similar to applying bias tape to the hem of a dress, only itās made of the same thicker fabric bras are made from.
Things you learn while getting a degree in costumingā¦
Dang, girl!
Title: Every Day Masks
Masks for: Friends / Family / Neighbours
Pattern Link to Share: I modified my pattern from the Sweet Red Poppy one (Pleated mask with bias tape)
I had a huge roll of bias tape that I had gotten at a yard sale years ago, so I wanted to use it. I use a layer of flannel between two layers of quilting cotton, so it was too thick to do the pleated one, so I modified it by adding 2 1/2" pieces of 1/8" elastic to the sides. I added a sleeve on the outside made from doubled over bias tape to slide a piece of wire or pipe cleaner (folded in half and twisted together) to help shape it around the nose, but I wanted it to be removable for washing.
These are not the prettiest masks, as I was using whatever fabric/thread I had laying around, but I was able to make about 30 masks for friends, family, and people in my local Buy Nothing FB group who needed them. I plan on starting up again next week because people are asking for child sized ones and I canāt not make them for kidsā¦
Thank you for the tips!
Title: Stamp themed and just pretty
Masks for: my dad and his wife
My dad asked if Iād make them a couple of masks each with my choice of fabric. Picking for him was easy as Iāve been collecting stamp themed fabrics already to make him something (heās a major stamp collector) Deciding for his wife was a little harder but I remembered she wore similar colours to my late mom so I picked what I knew my mom would have liked. Dad wanted the more fitted masks but they live in a different city so they couldnāt try them on before finishing so I made one of that style and on surgical style.
Sorry been busy making 25 more masks! Yes it is cut on the bias. The website I got the pattern from gives fabulous instructions on how to do so. I had no idea what it was before this project!
Thanks! Not new but have been put away for a while and I wanted a change!
You guys are mask making machines! These are all so great and kudos to all of you who are cutting the pieces and sewing with a machine! Mine are cheaters done with the embroidery machine!

Masks for: friends

We also have about 20 masks in progress, at various stages of completion, but weāre waiting on a shipment of elastic before we can totally finish any of them.
I have a notebook from diaso with that blue and white flowery print! - nice masks!
Pretty sure thatās where I bought the cloth!
Iāve made 80ish masks that I didnāt post here because I was paid for making them. I met a lady recently who owns an Etsy shop and has so much business from masks that sheās hired 9 people to help her. Mass producing, assembly line isnāt my favourite way to work but itās a bit of extra income when my hubby is laid off.
Thatās an awesome way to help supplement your income as well as helping other people who canāt find masks in the stores!
Okay, Mom and I just finished up a BUNCH of WIP masks today. Iāll post a big group shot of them and then individual entries:
Sorry if these are getting a little tedious with so many of the same fabrics!

Oh, also, these are all still waiting on just the elastic, which was supposed to be delivered by today, but things are understandably delayed right now. As soon as theyāve got the elastic, weāll be shipping them to friends all over the country!
I feel pretty safe where I live, and even in my country, but I have one friend who is far more afraid as she lives in UK. She worried about when she had to go back so much that she was willing to hand stitch her own masks as she had no sewing machine, so I offered to do it for her as I also have a lot of fabric that I want to start using.
She got to pick all the fabric and I found some patterns that would work which would allow her to add filter inside for extra protection. Itās the tying kind so no pain in the ears, and I tested it before I sent them and they are so ātightā around the nose that my glasses didnāt fog, which is a plus as she also wears glasses and thatās the worst part about masks.
Title: Nursing home masks - current batch of 40
For: Local nursing home
I am using up lots of old, bottom of the bin, fabric. Last weekās batch of 29 went to a local hospital/health care group. I had made a batch of darker colors and when we switched to a nursing home where one of my friends is currently living, I wanted brighter colors to mix in. So I raided my āI might use it somedayā bin.
There are approx 40 masks here. There may be more by Sunday when the masks are picked up. Itās become a bit of an obsession with meā¦I think itās my way of coping with shut-in stress. I am working full time or I would be a very crazy sewing lady.
I need to make blackout curtains for our bedroom, the pinned up fabric ātemporaryā fix is driving me crazy.
This round of the Lettuce Help Our Communities has ended! Since there is still a great demand for masks, I have opened a Round 2 that will run through the end of May.
Stay tuned later today, for the prize drawing!
