On one tail you top-stitched. On the other it doesn’t look like you did. Any particular reason why?
Mostly laziness, I had the right color bobbin thread in to topstitch one and not the other. The pattern doesn’t actually call for topstitching the tail, but I kinda went rogue in how I put it on anyway. The top stitched tail is nicer. It lies flatter, and the tail doesn’t twist as much when it is worn, but it was late and I couldn’t be bothered with the second one (and honestly I will go to rather extreme lengths to avoid changing my bobbin, even though it is not at all difficult. Dunno why, but it is a fact.) My kids haven’t noticed, and both are happy with them so it probably depends on who it is for, and how particular you are about your sewing, whether the top stitching is worth it or not.
Yes, top-stitching is very attractive but extra work. As you shared, it helps things to lie flatter and neater. Both of your tails look nice, though.
