CLOSED: Harry Potter Craftalong - Ostara 2020

I should have made this ginormous blanket Iā€™m working on into some kind of advanced study project. I give it hours nearly every day. It is 201 stitches by 201 rows of hdc and then a border. But I didnā€™t think of that soā€¦
Ah well, at least Iā€™m crafting!

My advanced studies have also taken a back seat. So much other stuff going on. It will all calm down soon, weā€™ve only got 51Ā½ years to catch up on :rofl:

**Project Name: student supply bags
Brief Description: I am teaching remotely nowšŸ˜¢but with it being kindergarten many of my families said they did not want tech all day, and neither do I, so I whipped up 17 draw string bags to carry their supplies and rubbermaid box and filled it with everything they would need for April, no plastic bags to the landfill and the kids have a place to keep everything.
Project Picture: sorry for the bad pic, almost forgot to take one, so this is all loaded up ready to deliver.

Thank you @Abbeeroad and @Edel. Itā€™s from the ā€œScrappy Market Toteā€ class on Bluprint, so you can check out the pattern while theyā€™re still having the free month or whatever, if you want.

Also, Hufflepuffs are coming out HOT the last few days! :muscle: Keep it up!

Class or Challenge Title: Herbology
House: Gryffindor
Project Name & Page Link: Homegrown Alfalfa Sprouts
Brief Description: For my first entry into the HP Craftalong (Hi everyone ) I wanted to share with you some alfalfa sprouts that I have grown this week. I used 2 tbsp of seeds to begin with, and by the end I needed to split up the sprouts because they were growing so prolifically!
You need to soak the seeds overnight and then after that, rinse and drain twice every 8 hours or so - I ended up doing it morning and night. From the 3rd day you need to place them in the sunshine to allow them to green up, but you have to be sure to not let them dry out. They will store in the fridge for around 5 days.
They are delicious!!

Project Name & Page Link: Japanese Rice Bag on LC - Link to Purchased Pattern
Brief Description: A perfect pouch to save time by keeping my cottons organised :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I came across this pattern on Instagram and I fell in love. I wanted to use up some of my scrap fabrics. It was pretty straight forward to construct and Iā€™m really happy with how it turned out. I even liked playing around with including some hand embroidery wherever it took my fancy :innocent:
Now Iā€™m going to need to make another to store my cool coloured Perle 8 cottons.

Note from the Headmistressā€¦
I have added another challenge prompt, due to our current pandemic. You may complete the challenge 10 times. If anyone has posted masks already, under alternate prompts such as Detention-Stash, you are welcome to switch the challenge subject to this one, thereby freeing up those other challenges for future crafting if you wish. I will do a points tally on Wednesday, so you have until then to edit any of your posts.

If you are crafting large scale for a local hospital and somehow fill all 10 slots for this challenge, please let me know, and I can adjust the limit if need be.

Also please let me know if the bonus points rules make sense, or if you require clarification.

Brief Description: my niece was in the NICU for a long time. Now they are home and in isolation, but with everything being closed and the baby growing, she was in need of some baby clothes! So I made this cute hat and pants set for her. They are made of stretch knit that I bought in the fall last year with the intention of doing something cute for her.

Project Name & Page Link: Cinnamon rolls
Brief Description: Iā€™ve made the same cinnamon rolls a bunch of times. But last time I made them ahead and froze them and they just didnā€™t work. I was so disappointed! I tried them again, learning from my mistake and no making ahead of time and freezing and they worked out splendidly. I also found that I needed a higher oven temp and a longer cook time. They are out perfect and weā€™re absolutely delicious!

A new Hermioneā€™s Book Club prompt has been postedā€¦

Remember, you always have until the end of the day that a new challenge is posted, to post the previous challenge.

Class or Challenge Title: Book Club - Ch. 5
LC Contest: Lettuce Help Our Communities
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Pink, Turquoise & Skully Fitted Masks
Brief Description: My mom doesnā€™t seem to be taking this as seriously as I would like her to, and is still sometimes going out. So Iā€™ve made two masks for her, in pink and turquoise. And I made one from my carefully hoarded skull & cross bones newsprint for dad. His is lined in acid green, mostly just to amuse his macabre sense of humor. It was so hard to cut this fabric up!

Class or Challenge Title: Expecto Patronum - Masks
LC Contest: Lettuce Help Our Communities
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Purple & D&D Dice Fitted Masks
Brief Description: First one was my prototype, whipped up in an hour for an unexpected Vet visit. I found tying the upper ties above my ponytail helped keep it from hurting my ears, but the bias tape wasnā€™t all that comfortable. I tried again with some elastic for the stars mask, but found it ultimately also uncomfortable when I had to grocery shop last week. Iā€™ve since switched to using tee shirt yarn for the ties, as itā€™s much softer, and has a gentle stretch to it.

Class or Challenge Title: Expecto Patronum - Masks
LC Contest: Lettuce Help Our Communities
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Star Trek Fitted Masks
Brief Description: My neighbor S. has to keep working, as heā€™s in construction and owns his own small business. Their jobs were already scheduled, so theyā€™re doing whatever they can. I used some of my precious store of elastic for him, since he doesnā€™t have long hair, and canā€™t use a ponytail to take the strain off his ears. I did two, so he can have one in the wash, while wearing the other to work.

Class or Challenge Title: Expecto Patronum - Masks
LC Contest: Lettuce Help Our Communities
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Pink & States Fitted Masks
Brief Description: S.'s wife & son are mostly at home all the time, but I whipped up one for each of them in case something comes up and they have to go somewhere, like an unplanned doctorā€™s visit. Kiddo is 4, and full of energy, so that could totally happen.

Class or Challenge Title: Expecto Patronum - Masks
LC Contest: Lettuce Help Our Communities
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Solid Black & Purple Stars Fitted Masks
Brief Description: My brother requested solid black to match his companyā€™s colors/gear. Heā€™s also in construction, and has been working his limited crew odd hours to try to avoid other people on job sites as much as possible. Again, I made him two, so one can always be in the wash. My SIL is staying home with the kids, as sheā€™s currently out of work, since the university she works for has suspended classes, but I wanted her to have one in case she has to run to the grocery store.

House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Pink Strawberries & Turquoise Medallion Masks
Brief Description: I doubt my 8 & 10 year old nieces are going anywhere, but on the off chance something happens and they need to go out, I whipped up kid sized ones for them.

Class or Challenge Title: DADA

Project Name & Page Link: Mandala Coloring Page #4
Brief Description: Still cranking on these gel pen coloring pages, which are both sharp and pointy pens, that contain smooth and slippery ink. Going for a cool toned palette this time.

Class or Challenge Title: Potions
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Painted Rocks
Brief Description: This project definitely helped get me out of my coloring rut. I have a flowerbed on one side of my house that is just rocks, and is likely to stay just rocks for quite a while. We have slowly been moving some larger rocks from other places into the bed, and I hit upon the idea of making it a feature - getting some gnomes (once I can go out again), and adding some painted rocks. This is my first attempt at painted rocks, and Iā€™m pretty happy with it (Snoopy is a little wonky but heā€™ll do). This is just standard acrylic paint, sealed with Mod Podge.

That book nook is incredible! Iā€™ve subscribed to his channel now. Thank you! If anyone is planning to make one (I have one in the works already!) I have found Black Magic Craft on YouTube to be an excellent resource! His focus is tabletop gaming props, but his techniques and instructions are helpful for really any kind of diorama.

Thank you for that link. Iā€™m on a quilting obsession right now, but I think a book book might be in my future.

**Class or Challenge Title: Detention- Stash
**House: Hufflepuff
**Project Name & Page Link: Easter Hat
**Brief Description: Originally this was going to be much more of a bonnet with a wide brim than a bucket hat, but the tight gauge was hurting my thumbs so I stopped. I didnā€™t think much about this little project before starting, but sometimes impulsive projects are the best! It doesnā€™t fit over Rileyā€™s wig but I think she looks darling in it. The button was clear but I painted it with nail polish!
