CLOSED: Harry Potter Craftalong - Yule 2019/20

Class or Challenge Title: Hagrid’s Christmas Tree - Garland
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Raindrops Doll Dress
Brief Description: So far the local winter weather has been mostly rain (we had a surprise snow, but it didn’t last). It’s not the picturesque raindrops featured in this fabric, mostly just oppressively gray and damp, but who wants to craft with those adjectives in mind?

Class or Challenge Title: Apparition
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: 12 coin envelopes
Brief Description: Made for the Good Little Things Swap through the very scientific method of carefully pulling apart an old envelope and tracing it onto scrapbook paper

Class or Challenge Title: House Pride
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Bumblebee Dress
Brief Description: Black and yellow, that ever popular color combination among bees, Pittsburgh sports teams, and Hufflepuffs.

Class or Challenge Title: Potions
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Popcorn Project Pouch
Brief Description: I made this pouch for the Little Good Things swap using Amista Baker’s Popcorn Pouch pattern. The basic idea with these pouches is that they lie flat for storage but can puff up like a bag of popcorn in the microwave when you put stuff into them.

Trillian, you are busy, busy!! Love the little pouch.

I’m just gonna leave this here…whistles and walks away

NEWT Proposal
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Happy Birthday from Teddy Book
Project description: I wanna write and illustrate a children’s book featuring my original character, Teddy Cuddlestuff. I’m thinking it’ll take 12 to 14 illustrations. If I can do two to three paintings a week I think I can have it done between four and six weeks. I must write the story first. The I have to sketch everything out. After that I’ll paint all the paintings. I don’t know how I’ll make it into a book yet. But I’ll think about that later.

Class or Challenge Title: Astronomy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Tateronis
Brief Description: This is something that the family loves and that uses things we usually have on hand. Tateroni is a baked potato (scrubbed but not skinned) that is sliced crossways, then stuffed with pepperoni in the slices. We added a slice of black olives into some, and a slice of mushroom into others. Add your favorite marinara sauce, top with mozzarella, and bake until the sauce is bubbly and the cheese melts. Some folks prefer to broil and get the browned cheese but my family likes the softer baked version. With the onset of a winter ice storm, this is our tastebuds’ battle against climate change from warmer to subarctic weather.
There is no official recipe that we follow.

Um…I need to try this!

Let me know what you think! I love the versatility

@Jeanne - those sound delicious and easy enough to be right up my alley, cooking wise. I’ll have to give them a try!

Class or Challenge Title: Hagrid’s Christmas Tree - Ribbons
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Replacement Pencil Pouch
Brief Description: I used this tutorial to replace my old pencil ouch that had been used to death. The process involves quilting regular old fabric to felt to create a nice, stiff whole to work with. For once I managed to find a thread and zipper in the same green as the main fabric to really tie the whole thing together.

Class or Challenge Title: Muggle Studies
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Cheery Floral Doll Dress
Brief Description: I needed to make something cheery to drive away the winter blues, and this doll dress fit the bill.

I hope you like them! Please let me know how you make yours.

Happiest of Birthdays to our very own Advanced Studies Examiner, the Chairwoman of Iron Chef Hogwarts, and the very best GryffinMaus there ever was, @Abbeeroad!

Class or Challenge Title: Charms
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Itty Bitty Doll Dress
Brief Description: Despite its size in the picture, this particular dress is only about 2.5 inches tall. The small size, plus the fact that I was trying to squeeze it out of a barely big enough scrap, made concentration and accuracy even more important than usual for this project.

Class or Challenge Title: Hagrid’s Tree - Lights
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Vintage Fabric Scrap Boxy Pouch
Brief Description: My Aunt (or rather rather my grandmother’s best friend from middle school who’s just part of the family by now) has been having a rough time of it lately, so mom and I wanted to put together a care package as a pick-me-up. I found some vintage fabric in my stash that I thought she’d like (and there’s a good chance it came from her stash originally) and whipped up a tiny little boxy pouch for her. I’m not sure what she’ll use it for, but it was the perfect size to hold three lindt chocolate balls.

I love that fabric (and the bees earlier, obvs. lol) such lovely tiny work you do!

@Abbeeroad: It’s amazing what can be done with the clone stamp tool. Especially when ‘APPEE’ only needs to be turned into Abbee. I just cloned appee, then recloned to repeat the upper loops on the P’s, to make the lower loops on the B’s. I was pretty proud of it.

You should be! It’s awesome!
