CLOSED: Harry Potter Craftalong - Yule 2020/21

Class or Challenge Title: Muggle Studies
House: Gryffindor
Project Name & Page Link: January Cross Stitch
Brief Description: My favorite of all muggle crafts currentlyā€¦cross stitch! I prefer to do it the slow, muggle way rather than use magic. I actually completed this at the end of December so itā€™d be done for January but once I finished it it was tucked away into I found it again this week.

Itā€™s from Cross Stitcher magazine by Cheryl McKinnon. Thereā€™s a design for every month. Iā€™m going to do one each month for my own personal SAL. Not sure what I want to do with all them when Iā€™m done, but I have plenty of time to think about it.

@Whistlefish - love the design for January, I canā€™t wait to see the rest of the months  And the winter sampler is looking amazing.

Few more classes to turn in

Brief Description: Cross stitch is all about keeping track of the stitches.

This cross stitch kit was given to me a few years ago, but I had never got around to stitching it. Unfortunately the needle had been placed in the fabric and had gone slightly rusty, staining the fabric. I tried bleaching, which didnā€™t work, so stained the fabric in some tea and added some coffee granules. I then used wax crayons to add a tint of green. Quite pleased that the rust spots are no longer obvious although not 100% happy with the outcome!

Class or Challenge Title: Flying
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: n/a
Brief Description: The theme for these inchies was rainbow, but I wanted them to be a blend of colours, so I created the background in one piece with a variety of different coloured pens and pieces of ribbon. I then cut it up and added a button of each colour. It wasnā€™t clear whilst creating the background what the result was going to be.

Class or Challenge Title: HOM
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: n/a
Brief Description: I was missing the Little Visitor Swap this winter, so I contacted @Inselaeffchen and asked if she fancied a private LV swap. Peanut didnā€™t have his own LV passport, so I created one to send with him on his travels. Each pocket has a tag that can be filled in with dates and location.

I wouldnā€™t have know know there were rust spots had you not mentioned it! I thought thatā€™s just how the fabric was.

Also, thatā€™s the card I got! (Or maybe you made multiplesā€¦) I love it! I was curious what you used for the ā€œHappy Christmasā€ silver writing on there.

I did make a few duplicates - still quite new to watercolours, so have a limited range of designs I know how to do

I used peel off stickers like this - https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Papermania-Stickers-Multi-One-Size/dp/B01LSN2KA0/ref=sr_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=peel+off+stickers+happy+christmas+silver&qid=1611348193&sr=8-14 - only in silver

Oh wow! I thought they were embossed at first but the backside was still smooth. Stickers make much more sense. Lol.

Class or Challenge Title: Detention Stash 1
House: :yellow_heart:  Gryffindor :lion:
Project Name & Page Link: Valentineā€™s Day Cards
Brief Description: I created these 10 Valentineā€™s Day cards completely out of items from my stash: paper, embroidery thread, fabric, washi tapeā€¦ I love my stash!
Project Picture: Have blurred the image in case you are in the swap and donā€™t want to see what Iā€™ve made

I love them so much because as well as being cards, the recipients can pull them apart when they are finished and reuse/repurpose the embroidery - I made them on an 8 inch square piece of fabric so they would have options

Brief Description: I created these 7 LC patches for swaps and thankyous using felt, interfacing and embroidery thread from my stash

Project Name & Page Link: Christmas Economy Quilt Blocks
Brief Description: I am aiming to make around 120 of these 6 inch square quilt blocks for a big Christmas quilt ready for 2021. These were the first 15 that I made. I put them up on my wall with washi tape to check them out (I donā€™t have a proper design wall, yet  ) and I just love them as a little decoration! I think Iā€™m going to have to make myself a proper mini quilt to hang there when I eventually do take them down.

Project Name & Page Link: Christmas quilt for my brother
Brief Description: I made this for my brother for Christmas last year, using the pillowcases he used as a child. He was really impressed with the gift, as he didnā€™t know I even had them (Iā€™d had them for about 9 years!) There are loads and loads of straight lines in the quilting!

~ ADVANCED STUDIES PROPOSAL ~
Project Name: Muggle Doll Shoes
House: Hufflepuff
Brief Description: With a new term coming up I am feeling motivated to try something I have been wanting to learn for a while. Muggle dolls have such small feet. It is a wonder to me how shoes can be built in such a tiny proportion without magic. I have tried to create a couple of pairs, but they turned out terrible. I would like to devote time to learning to create doll shoes.
I want to create them using different mediums:
*fabric *polymer clay *pleather *altering premade shoes
Along with using different materials, I would like to make a variety of shoe types:
*sandals *heels *boots *slippers
Learning from previous shoe failures I need to try a variety of glues and learn from some master shoemakers via youtube.

Lastly, I need to make a shoe rack to display the new shoes. I expect it to take 20 or more hours to become a decent apprentice shoemaker. I am hoping to have the project done in a month.
