~ Hermione’s Book Club ~
Chapter 5: The Whomping Willow November 29th - December 13th
Harry and the Weasleys head to King’s Cross Station in the Ford Anglia. Mr & Mrs. Weasley send Percy, Fred, & George through the magical barrier to Platform 9 3/4, then take Ginny through themselves, leaving Harry & Ron to follow. The boys find the barrier is mysteriously sealed against them. When they miss the train, Harry and Ron decide to fly Mr Weasley’s Ford Anglia to Hogwarts. They end up being spotted by many Muggles and crash the car into the Whomping Willow. The impact breaks Ron’s wand, and the giant tree begins pummeling the car in return. The battered car ejects Harry, Ron, and their luggage, then escapes into the Forbidden Forest.

Professor Snape catches the boys as they approach the castle, and attempts to have them expelled, but Dumbledore refuses, and instead sends a letter to each of their families. Professor McGonagall gives the boys a warning and separate detentions. She also tells them that Ginny was sorted into Gryffindor, and says they are not allowed to attend the remainder of the Start of Term Feast, but does provide them with a tray of sandwiches.

For this challenge please take a crafty risk! This could be trying out a new medium you haven’t explored before, altering a recipe drastically, or playing yarn chicken with a project.

Gryffindor Holiday Card Exchange

Gryffindor House is again hosting our annual holiday card exchange. This exchange is open to all HPC members of any House, and cards can be handmade or store bought. (No judgement!) You may participate as much or as little as you wish. This is not a swap, and no one will keep track of cards you send or receive. You can send cards to just a few people, to all the members in your country, or to everyone around the world who signs up. It’s up to you.

To participate, please send Mistress Jennie your name & mailing address (including country), exactly as it should appear on the envelope, by December 1st. I will compile the list, and send it back to you on December 2nd. At that point, you can write and mail your cards!

Class or Challenge Title: Trees Challenge - TREE SKIRT
House: Gryffindor
Project Name & Page Link: Cinnamon Ornaments!
Brief Description: This project was perfect for the Tree Skirt challenge! It was both functional (smelling heavenly is a function, right?) and decorative (aren’t they cute?!).

They only take three ingredients: a boatload of cinnamon, some applesauce, and a teensy bit of glue. (Some recipes exclude the glue but I used it just for extra stability. These ornaments are NOT edible but they smell DIVINE.

I did the project with my kiddos and we had a blast. The 8 year old was self sufficient. But when you’re working with a three year old…lets just say that’s way more work on a project than doing it without a three year old.

I highly recommend them for some easy, holiday fun. I may make more for present tags just because I love them so much. (Love me some cinnamon!) We used puffy paint to decorate them once they were dried out.

Good Morning all! It is always such a joy to read through the HPC thread. Everyone is pushing to create more and stretch their crafty muscles. What a great community <3 It’s gotten to be THAT TIME again–that wonderful time where craft meets holiday and I am SOOOOO EXCITED (except for the shameful procrastinating part, haha). Now that NaNowriMo is over I can look forward to working my fingers in a different way and the Classes here gave me tons of good present ideas.

Project Name: Secret pumpkin pie
Project Description: every year I make this pumpkin pie. I use Libby’s pumpkin pie recipe. But I add a secret ingredient! 8oz of cream cheese! I cream the softened cream cheese until it’s whipped and then I add it to the pumpkin and cream them together until they are well incorporated. (If you don’t do it right it gives you a speckled pie. Still tasty but not the same.) Be sure to double your spices too!
