CLOSED: Harry Potter Craftalong - Yule 2021/22

You got it!

Hey Abbee, since I can’t open the link to figure out what my Advanced Studies project even was, and I can’t remember what I might have proposed, I clearly am not going to do it. Go ahead and delete it!

lol…yes, I realized most of these links (all) go to Deadster, and so they aren’t very useful!

I will delete!

Class or Challenge Title: Ancient Runes
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Basic Socks
Brief Description: It took me long enough, but I finally put this beautiful sock yarn to use. My DS calls it Creeper yarn because it looks like the Minecraft bad guy. I made these socks for my DH on a knitting loom.

Class or Challenge Title: Headmistress - Baubles
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Handspun Cabled Beanie
Brief Description: This beanie was for my FIL, but the cables are totally my style. The handspun wool/silk should keep him good and warm for the small part of the cold season he spends up North.

Class or Challenge Title: Headmistress - Garland
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Economy Lap Quilt
Brief Description: This quilt isn’t exactly pretty, but it is definitely warm! Just in time for the January chill, I was inspired to finish this up (though I may end up making it larger).

Class or Challenge Title: Headmistress - Star
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Malabrigo Chevron Beanie
Brief Description: I love textured stitching in crochet! Malabrigo yarn really makes those stitches pop and this pattern is just gorgeous. The hat is for my niece.
Project Picture:

Class or Challenge Title: Arithmancy
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Alpaca Handspun Yarn
Brief Description: My DH bought me this fiber, from a local farm, for my birthday. It’s silky and slippery to work with, and I chain-plied it (something a lot of spinners dislike doing). Chain-plying is methodical and, for me, relaxing once I find my groove. This is just my 2-oz sampling skein…I still have almost a pound left to spin.

Class or Challenge Title: Headmistress - Angel
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Fleece Blankets
Brief Description: My boys are my angels, and that includes my pup. They each wanted, and received, a cozy blanket for Christmas. But, the dog was definitely the most thrilled about it - he just loves his blankets (and he doesn’t destroy the fleece ones).

~ ADVANCED STUDIES PROPOSAL ~
Project Name: Scrap Buster Quilt
House: Slytherin
Brief Description: Just as the name implies, this quilt will be a stash buster. I have lots of scraps, both large and small. I will use a few techniques to, hopefully, utilize them all. Individual squares will be 9" and be composed of crumbs, strips, and traditional piecing patterns. No theme, no color scheme, no rhyme or reason…just random, scrappy fun.

Class or Challenge Title: Alchemy
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Charcoal Baby Sweater
Brief Description: This is the first of the 4 baby sweaters I made for my husband’s coworkers, who are all having babies right around the time we are. This one is half of a set, for twins due in March. The gold one below is it’s match. It’s crocheted, which is a medium that uses loops and rings. The pattern is the Essential Baby Sweater, and is a free download. It’s a fast and easy project.
Project Picture:

Class or Challenge Title: 12 Tree’s - Angel
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Ari’s Hat
Brief Description: My niece Ari is one of the angels in my life. She’s funny and smart and kind, and makes me laugh. She calls me after school when she’s bored, and tells me silly stories and asks about the baby. I offered to make her a hat, but only if she wanted one and thought she would wear it. She was very excited about it, and picked the yarn from my stash. She was thrilled to see I had black & rainbow. The pattern is the Simple Double Crochet Hat, and it’s super easy. I did alter mine a bit. I opted for some fpdc and bpdc stitch along the brim to give it a ribbed texture, and when I finished the prescribed number of rows, it was a bit short, so I added 2 more rows of ribbed dc, and 1 of sc.

That’s amazing!!!

Well, it would appear that I have missed almost the whole term :flushed: I would love to say it is down to something exciting, but it is just that work has been so crazy busy that I have not felt like being online much when not working, especially as my home PC is on the same desk as I work at every day! But I have been busy crafting away, so have a number of projects to share, starting with Hagrid’s 12 Trees Christmas Challenges

Class or Challenge Title: Angel
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Chocolate Cherry Trifle
Brief Description: This was made for my hubby, as it is one of his favourite desserts. He doesn’t get it very often, as it makes quite a large quantity and it takes the two of us ages to eat it all!

The original recipe was one I saw on a TV show (I don’t remember which one) which was all about using store cupboard ingredients. The base is slices of ready made chocolate muffins (I used a shop bought chocolate swiss roll this time, as they didn’t have muffins) and a tin of cherries, drained of the juice and destoned if not already. The next layer is chocolate mousse, either a packet to be made up with water/milk or bought ready made. The top layer is whipped cream and you can top with chocolate flakes or sprinkles, although I didn’t do that this time.

If you want a “fancier” version, you can soak the cherries in alcohol for a while first. You can also make this with a tin of mandarin pieces, possibly soaked in cointreau or similar first.

Class or Challenge Title: Baubles
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: HP Trio
Brief Description: These hooplas were embroidered for a friend for a Christmas present, who is also a huge Harry Potter fan and loves Snape. Brief Description: This Nutella filled pastry Christmas tree was made for breakfast on Christmas day. It both looks lovely and it certainly tasted amazing.
Project Picture:

Class or Challenge Title: Candles
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Veggie Bean Chilli
Brief Description: This Veggie Bean Chilli certainly gave me a lovely glow. This is a made up recipe! I cubed and roasted half a huge butternut squash in the oven until lovely and golden. Whilst that was roasting, I fried up one roughly chopped large onion, added a good dollop of minced garlic and then several tins - one each of baked beans, chickpeas, kidney beans and sweetcorn. I poured over a jar of ready made chilli sauce and left it to simmer for 20 minutes or so. As soon as the butternut was golden, I tipped the lot in and added in a couple of handfuls of chopped mushrooms. Left it to simmer for another 10-15 mins and served over rice. It was so good!

Class or Challenge Title: Fake snow
SPEW or LC Contest: Made to sell at a charity bake sale, raising funds for a small local school for neurodivergent children that are struggling in mainstream schools
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name & Page Link: Mars Bar Slice
Brief Description: This recipe used melted mars bars and rice crispies as the bottom layer, a tin of ready made caramel in the middle and a melted bar of chocolate for the top. Easy to make, a pain to slice and so messy to eat! No real ingredient amounts - I melted 2 large mars bars, stirred in cereal until it wouldn’t take more. Used a small tin of caramel and a large chocolate bar for the top. Easy to scale up or down as needed, but I don’t recommend trying to cut straight from the fridge!

This one is mine, and while I haven’t finished it yet I’m half way there, the problem is that I can’t afford to finish it just yet.

Ah - thank you! I will keep and update to your LC name!

Great skirt, @skrutt!
