We’re not in the market for a fridge just yet and are just going to take our lumps when the time comes, I think. I do think I am going to move “new hot tub cover” up the list, though. Those things are ridiculously costly already.
We went with a 30 inch counter depth fridge with freezer at the bottom and in our budget. Came down to only two choices and we had to buy without seeing them. The only issue is that the drawers only come out about half way. What? But the counter delth is nice, you loose less in the back!
There are only two of us and in 4 months we havent even filled the thing up!. I know that dinners and holidays will change that but we just don’t keep anything we don’t use. The little freezer in the basement holds extra stuff. We shop about every two weeks.
We don’t drink sodas or other bottled drinks.
I don’t get the super hulking fridges. Even for a large family you can control quanties. Oh, my other thing that gets me is massive islands with fridges on the far side. Who wants to walk around the island everytime you need something. And I’m not sure a normal human being can reach the middle to clean. Give me a compact kitch any time.
Ok I would like a couple of extra feet all around.
I feel the same way with microwaves set into an island…way too low for me. I mean, kids will be short for only so long…oh well, each to their own!
@TheMistressT Oh my! I did not know that about garage refrigerators…the one we have was in a den in our former PA house and then in the garage at the beach where temps reached a low of about 40! I will have our handyman check to see if it can withstand being in the garage here…we are are looking to have a heater installed so Jim can use his workbench in winter, but not to be on all the time! Yikes!
It has to be really cold and for quite awhile, but it’s certainly something to look into. The worst effect we’ve had is our canned beverages froze and cracked the cans! This was only an issue a couple times/winter here in Montana. I mean, if it’s that cold outside, the stuff in the fridge is not going to spoil, but it could freeze and that could cause a mess. I do think that it’s kind of hard on the fridge condenser (or whatever), though.
Last week I got the electrical outlets sorted and the last 2 cases installed! Now to shop for/order all the trim and mouldings to trim out this beast! It’s 13’5" wide (4 meters).
OOPS! Forgot the pic!
Awesome!
Looks like you are on a roll! Not just sturdy looking, but so neat and even!
Thanks, y’all! I’ve been going so slow in order to do as good of a job as I can doing something where most steps are totally new to me and the rest are ones I haven’t done a lot and even that was mostly a long time ago.
This will be amazing! So much storage. Looks great already.
Thank you! It’s supposed to be just for books and a few objets, but suddenly TheMisterT decided he’s willing to purge his books! I may be trying to figure out style-appropriate containers for storing other things.
3D modeling is not my favorite task so I wrote up all the dimensions and my husband just sent me this mockup for my shelves! He’s going to make me two units, one to replace the Alex unit and store my large 18x24” papers and a second one to store 14x18” papers. I think we’re going to paint the unit white and probably leave the shelves the natural birch color since I’m too lazy to paint that many shelves lol. Both units will also be on locking casters. I think we are going to glue in one of the middle shelves and the rest will be removable in case my storage needs change in the future. I’m going to have so much storage, I’m ridiculously excited!
Nice!!! Sounds like this one is going to be perfecr for your needs.
I’m keeping my old Kallax and Expedit units but they’re getting a bit of a facelift, these are wallpapered hardboard sheets that I’ll add as backing:
It’s not a difficult job but I’m not a fan of spray glue.
I love that paper! What a nice way to spruce up your existing stuff!
@photojenn Wow! that looks like great storage! You are lucky to have a talented wood worker in your life as well…I just love when couples do projects that help each other out!
Lol I started out with help this morning, but my help disappeared He’s always super annoyed with my way of doing things. He always compares me to Pat & Mat! ( I don’t know if you guys are familiar, it’s a long running animated series from Europe. I’m sure it’s on youtube, and there’s no dialogue, it’s relatable for everyone in this thread).
My space has an odd shape so I’ve stacked several units on top of each other, and they’re always moving a little bit, so I decided to join them together using flat brackets. Apparantly he thought that was a bad idea, he also doesn’t get why I want a nice backing, or why I want to paint it. He feels like it would probably still be ugly. When I’m done he’s going to be totally surprised it’s not ugly and at all and it turned out ok! It’s like that every single time.
My husband shakes his head at my many projects. He likes that I don’t involve him in most things. He gets annoyed and says I am going to do things how I want anyway. I do insist on doing things that are going to show, like painting or detailed work. He is happy to leave things unfinished and can’t understand why I have to embellish everything (he likes plain white lampshades…I like trim or beads on my lampshades). Like your husband, in the end, he likes what I have done!
Sounds like our two guys would be happy just sitting back and enjoying a cold adult beverage as we craft away and make our our space the way we want! ha
AIMRA = always in my room again!
It’s hard with partners sometimes! TheMisterT is pretty easy, though. He knows I take into account his needs and tastes and he also knows that he has a hard time imagining a finished product. He also accepts that because he doesn’t put in much effort, that he doesn’t get to complain or whine about the results. Especially since I do ask him questions along the way. My ex would always question me along the way, then when it was done, say “you were right.” Eventually he said, “I always say that, I should just trust you.” But then would not. He was not an awful person or anything, but it’s frustrating when they can’t figure out their own responses!
We have a surprise houseguest coming Monday (tomorrow) night so I have kick started spring cleaning a bit on top of just general cleaning-for-guest level chores since Friday afternoon. Dusting is my absolute least favorite household task. I think replacing the woodstove with the pellet stove helped a bit, but I’m not 100% convinced, yet. As I am rigging up something to get a cobweb off the light in the stairwell, I wonder how people with two-story ceilings deal.
Have you tried room air filters? Since we put them in all the bedrooms and den, I haven’t had much dust to worry about. I hate dusting and I hate cleaning up cat hair all the time. The filters seem to take care of both. I do have to clean out the filters at least once a month, but lately, it seems I can get away with every few months.
No! I guess I assumed that those things were for ducts/registers. What brand is yours?
They are air purifiers…they come in all sizes and strengths.
The larger rooms have larger ones. I recall that during the wildfires out West, we got several people we knew larger ones so they could breathe the air. Not sure how they worked but for everyday pollen dander, dust, etc. the small ones work great for us.
