Looks great! Now I definitely want blue cabinets!

All cabinets are gung and filler bits are goung in. I am restaining the old cabinets with moderate success, but with new doors, I think it will pass. It saves at least $2000, so we can live with it. Now waiting for countertops! And then tile. Looks like it may be done end of June? Sigh.

We have had so much rain in May that all of the people who work outside are scrambling. I got woken up at 7:45 am by the lawn mowing people. Then, at 9, the company that redid our driver in the fall called to say they needed to come over to put the top coat of asphalt on before it rained again this week. At 10, the pest control company came over to pre-spray for stink bugs and mosquitos…of course, I am trying to do the last day of Making Zen 2025 classes (six of them!)…I am sick of house stuff…

@marionberries - when it’s the kitchen, they can’t ever move fast enough. It’s going to be worth the wait.

The vinyl planks went in today - they’re just finishing up the last of it as I type. The rest of the light fixtures were hung up, too, with the exception of the main kitchen light, which is in-transit.

I love looking at kitchen remodels. It seems that they become more functional as well as beautiful for the owners. There is no “one size” fits all in kitchens.

I know you both will be happy to have working kitchen…I am sure it has been stressful.

I took a nap after this morning’s chaos and feel so much better to face the weekend.

We have a great little store in town that does nothing but hardware and they only take cash. It’s odd, but you can’t beat them for selection or quality. So, I picked out cabinet pulls this morning. They’re the same as the ones downstairs, just a different finish, lol.

Progress! This is the smaller unit that will hold 14x18 papers, the larger one will hold 18x24. We brought it in to see it in the space and it’s going to be perfect! It will probably still be a couple weekends before they’re done (still lots of filling, sanding, cutting shelves, painting everything, attaching casters) but I’m so excited! These are going to solve my main storage issues!

You are so lucky to have a craftsman who can customize pieces for you! That looks perfect for holding papers!

I love it when something fits!

Our win for the weekend besides finishing the top coat on the old cabinets, starting to put liner down and restock all the cabinets…slow process, we got a new toilet seat!
Our 60s something upstairs bathroom has green fixtures, not mint green (maybe) or ming green (definitely not). It had an oak seat that had split apart, but oak seats are spendy and white or black just wasn’t our vibe.
Home Depot had two shades of green, the first was more ming green and went back. This one matches better if a bit to bright and plasticy. But it’s better than the dark oak one.
Luckily it’s upstairs and only occassional guests will see it.
Someday we may renovate but I rather like this little space.

I love that color! I truly miss the old colored porcelain. We had peach in our main bathroom, but mint!

It’s unbelievable how toilets have changed from my childhood days!

They have changed some of the designs to make cleaning easier. The low flushers have gotten better and you can get fancy!

We have soft, self-closing lids. We did not opt for the heated seats…

They painted the entry and half bath, and installed carpet today.

So close to being done!

Hoo-ee! I had been away fro 10 days, then have been recovering/catching up on life from being away and have sure missed out on the progress y’all have made. WOW! The kitchens are looking amazing and it’s so cool to see the big paper storage coming together.

I, too, would love to learn to build cabinets and hope to give it a real try, maybe next year. I’m gaining some knowledge and skills with the Big Bookcase Project. And I might actually be nearing the time when I can get back to it. It’s been roadblock after roadblock with the trim package, but hope that the solution I was offered yesterday is going to get me there.

Meanwhile, I am going to take advantage of some dryer weather to weed whack the “lower pasture,” along the road and front fence line, and along the driveway. I have an EGO battery powered weed cutter with about a 45-min battery life and 45 mins/morning is a good way to keep my body happy. I don’t have carpel tunnel syndrome, but I do get similar symptoms from the vibration of that tool. I take a prophylactic dose of ibuprofen and wear anti-vibration gloves to help. I picked up an EGO leaf blower last month and I’m going to put that to work getting the balcony and ready for the season as de-pine-pollened, too!

While Ada and I were away visiting Nana and Papa, Jim repainted the living room. The previous owners took down the wallpaper from 1989, but used the cheapest, nastiest flat grey paint. It was covered in dirty kid sized handprints. (Very Blair Witch chic.) Here’s the before shots (which make it look better than it was).

And here’s the after. Sherwin-Williams Vanillin on top and Sierra Redwood on the bottom. It looks less yellow and more cream in person. Not as much of a sharp contrast to the fireplace. (Which we hate. The previous owners covered the original brick with faux German schmere. I blame Joanna Gaines. We’d love to restore it, but that’s virtually impossible. Eventually we’ll look into options to de-Magnolia it. Maybe resurfacing with stone?)

Then he outdid himself by hanging up an encaustic painting we bought together from a local artist when we lived in TN. We got it as an Anniversary gift to ourselves. It looks so nice with the wall colors and rug.

I have some mocha brown curtains that we want to hang. I just need to find them. We never unpacked them after moving in, but I know they’re here somewhere…

Better detail shot of the painting. It was painted as one piece, then cut into 9 and individually mounted. You can rearrange the pieces if you want. (But that breaks my brain, and hurts my soul.) The grid areas are 3-dimensional, wads of paper pulp made into ropes.

I can see how the art piece influenced your color choices!

Until you can do a permanent change on the fireplace, maybe you could just tone down the bright white. Can you sponge some of the bricks with that lovely rust color? Maybe a brown as well? You could also spraypaint the vents to blend in?

I mean when you finish all the other 100’s of projects you want to do while having a broken arm and taking care of a toddler…

@MistressJennie - What a lovely refreshed room to come home to!

@TheMistressT - I hope your bookcases are smooth sailing from here on out.

I finally have a kitchen light! I love it!

What a lovely change to come home to! Those colors work so well with your beams, in both color and style. I bet the brown curtains are really going to be a nice finishing touch. I bet it was easier for Jim to do all this with a certain small person away, too. :upside_down_face:
