Is this a storage place for all of your crafting supplies or a tiny work room? Looking good and organized already!
Just storage, it’s too short to stand up in with no power, weird stairs, & very little room to maneuver. It will do for storing, I’m not crafting much but want to keep supplies for whenever I’m in the mood.
@Magpie YEY for storage! Bummer that the shelf brackets didn’t work out and you had to fill all those holes, but it’s great that you have another solution at hand.
I have been puttering away when I have a few hours to spend in the shop. I am working on a prototype for redoing our outdoor dining chairs by replacing the “all-weather wicker” with wood! I finished the seat prototype last weekend. It’s pretty comfy, but I think we’ll be adding cushions later on.
I’ve started the back and hope to work on it more this week. If we like that, then I need to order up a bunch of 1x2s and a few 1x4s. This is all scrap wood that is a bit rough or otherwise not great for furniture.
Looks great @TheMistressT ! I like the timeless look of wooden outdoor chairs, and pillows aren’t going to be an issue now you’ve got a new sewing machine. Plus you could completely change the look of your seating area by switching pillows around.
@Magpie Honestly I love that original colour (I’ve got one wall in that colour in my craft room and I stole the idea from @MistressJennie ) but the new colour you picked is much better for a storage space. Bummer the wall mounted shelving didn’t work but at least you already had a suitable shelf. You can never have too much storage space in a house and this looks like an odd corner that wouldn’t have been used for anything else.
The saga of getting materials for my deck chair project continues. And I haven’t even tried getting wood, yet! I tried at least 3 stores in the area for self-taping, star- or square-drive, wood screws for exterior use in 6x3/4" or even 8x3/4", but NOPE! I ended up ordering them online and they’re supposed to arrive tomorrow. I’m also having to get a rotary tool for getting the back slats to sit nicely, which I am going to pick up tomorrow, as well. HOPEFULLY, that means I can get the prototyping of the back accomplished this weekend which means I could figure out my lumber list and get that ordered up.
Speaking of sagas, they’ll need cushions. Not because the wood is particularly uncomfortable, especially for the time it takes to eat and visit, but because the table is a smidge taller than standard and the cushion will make the seats closer to the right distance from the table surface. I already have 2 outdoor seat cushion forms, so I dug into the leftovers of the throw pillows I made for the outdoor “conversation set,” but don’t have quite enough to make a cohesive set of 6 and all that fabric came from JoAnn, so I can’t get more. Sigh. And FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, there just aren’t reasonably priced premade cushions in colors that work for our vibe! Back to the interwebs to check for outdoor upholstery options for a 2nd time and POW! I found what I think will be a great print at a great price and ordered 3 yards. Then I went to find more of these cushion forms and found them at Michael’s, on sale + my 10% senior discount and free shipping! So far, I’ve spent less than $100. I still need zippers, but I think I’ll end up not spending more than I would have for store-bought, but getting ones that fit better in size and style! Of course, I’ll have to sew 6 3D rectangles, install 6 zippers, and make the ties, but still.
A few weeks ago, I put up some small shelves for knick knacks/random stuff and they’re just so cute. I dusted and rearranged what’s on there this afternoon.
How is everybody doing with their home projects? It’s so time consuming, my gosh! I’m almost there, though I’m sure countless hours of reorganizing will happen as I search for & use supplies.
Neighbour dubbed it Treehouse Craft Shoppe, haha
Space for the pegboard
Some childhood toys I still love
Shmorganized! So satisfying
The corkboard has a few swap items, some from the early c-ster days!
Wow! That is a lot of storage!
That’s the best! You’ve really maximized that space with your various organizers! Perhaps, I missed this in an earlier post, but how tall is that space.
The shelves are 53.7” high, it’s not quite me-height & there’s a gentle slope towards the back. It fits almost everything, except for sewing machines. I have 2 & a serger. & an old wood domed singer, & a hand crank. & an industrial. & a table machine.
I might be in trouble guys.
Your space looks great! ![]()
Ah, nice! You shouldn’t be lugging machines up and down those stairs anyway. ![]()
I know I’m not alone that part of doing home decor and renovations is purging. I’ve made lots of trips to donated to the women’s shelter thrift store and the creative reuse store. I’ve got a little stash that I hope to deliver to the construction reuse place soon, too. BUT I’ve also been trying to sell a few things via FBMP and Next Door which comes with unsurprising irritations, that are frustrating nonetheless. I posted a folio with over 200 CDs at a price under $ .45/CD and had so many clicks! But the lowballs offers! All men, mostly hours away asking if I was ever there or if I could meet partway. Like, you think I’m so desperate to get rid of this that I’ll take less than half of my price + drive a couple hours round trip? To meet someone who might not even show up? It took awhile to get someone truly interested, who would come pick it up in my town (which is how I listed it!), but I got full price from a nice guy who was so excited to have them. But the attitude/audacity some dudes were bringing was so off-putting. I had sold a box of 100-ish CDs to a record store last last year, so I know these had value, even if they didn’t have their original cases and that I was still giving a good deal for someone who wanted them to listen to.
Right now, I’ve been ghosted by someone who wanted a free almost-whole-bed-setup and who asked me to wait a few days so they could pick it up. Mattress, box spring, almost new mattress pad, brand name sheet set, matching comforter for someone in need. I don’t know if this guy was “in need,” but he said he could pick it up on Weds. I said, I’d wait, contact me Tuesday to set up a time. Tues night, I say, I assume you changed your mind. Weds morning I say, I’m going to offer it to the next person, then relist it. There is the added challenge for whomever that I can’t deliver it, but still BE POLITE and say you changed your mind or whatever.
Happy upside! I sold a pair of lamps I made out of vintage thermoses to someone in town who picked used basic courtesy in communication, arrived on time, etc. They’re going into a short-term rental with an old camp theme.
I finally finished my prototype for refurbishing our outdoor dining chairs! It’s quite comfortable, too. Now I need to get together a supply list for the wood, so I can order it along with a few other big things so I can pay just one delivery fee. This one is done with scrap wood, so I will redo it when I do the other five.
I still have to strip the others of their failing “all-weather wicker,” clean, sand, and paint the metal. They’ll be black to go with the table legs and I’ll stain the wood to match it, too.
The chair looks great. Good design and a wonderful save from the landfill!
Thank you! I’m pretty chuffed with how it worked out. I did a lot of planning and scheming and still wasn’t totally convinced, but that effort and time seems to have paid off. ![]()
It came out so cool!
Thanks!
This is more decor than renovation, but before the renovation I had a lot of art on the walls. I only put some of them back up after the renovation, the rest was still sitting on a pile in my desk, in a box in the attic, in a drawer, etc. Over the last couple of years I’ve also made a few new things. So today I finally got my hammer, nails and drill out to put up picture frames and other artwork. I even framed a thing I finished last year - a big piece, and I hate framing big pieces. I always say one day I’m going to splurge and have something framed by a pro, but I never end up doing it. A while back I tried making my own frame and that’s certainly not as easy as the youtube videos say it is, but I can frame in an existing frame. Not to a professional standard, but good enough for me. With a bit of luck I might even get my mirror up today and my printers’ tray. It’s so nice to finally be done with stuff like this. Stored frames and mirrors etc take up a lot of space, and it would actually be quite convenient to have more than one mirror in the house. I spend a lot of time in my room, so it’s nice to make it feel cosy.
I also finally ordered frames online for two pieces of art from a private swap with @Tapestry . She used American sized paper, and I’ve been looking for the right size of frame for ages and didn’t find it. I should have looked online earlier, because the frames I found were only €9,95. Now they can finally go up too (one in the kitchen and one in the craft room).
I completely spaced on American sizing vs metric when making your artwork! I should have asked standard sizes. Sorry about that. Future reference and out of curiosity, what are the most common frame sizes for you? Is that standard across Europe?
Congrats on getting things organized and art up! Those are huge wins.
