I Made An Umbrella! Yes, A Real Umbrella

This project is so cool. You have me looking into the class. It would be a neat summer project to do with my Mom and Aunt!

Wow! I can’t fathom making an umbrella, but you killed it. Love the fabric!

Thanks, everyone!

@gozer I think that the maker behind the pattern and hardware does classes around the country.

I hadn’t even considered it a possibility to make an umbrella! This is really cool and I love the fabric you selected!

I like it! Yes, somewhat expensive and tedious to make but a fun class. An especially nice product to make in your signature colors.

I’ve had a crochet parasol project on my “want to do” list forever. You may be giving me the starry eyes to make it happen and the link to find the base hardware. This came out so nice!

This is extremely cool. I had never thought of making an umbrella, but now if course I want to. I wonder Could you use an old umbrella and strip off the existing fabric (and use it as a pattern?)

I think that would totally work so long as the hardware and the top and on the ends of the ribs was reusable or replaceable, especially the caps for the ends of the ribs. I think it would be easier with an umbrella frame that has the longer “post” sticking out of the top rather than the kind that is flush at the top.

Dude, come on. This is the coolest! You are the coolest, my gosh.

I’ll have to raid my mother’s umbrella stand, she has a slight umbrella obsession.

Thanks, @Magpie !

@Edel We did 1/4" seams, the bottom is a double-folded 1/8" hem. Finished the raw edges after checking the size on the frame. I bet you’ll find a super cool frame in your mom’s “stash”!
