Insect Postcards

For this summer’s Postcard Club in Camp Nerd Games - Summer 2026 I decided to stick to a theme of endemic insects of Hawai’i.

For July, I drew/painted pinapinao, an endemic damselfly.

August was Blackburn’s Sphinx Moth, which was actually believed to be extinct until relatively recently when a small population was found.

And for September, I chose the Koa Bug, which is our largest endemic true bug (which, I believe, basicallg means an insect that has a larval , pupa, and adult stage, instead of nymph/molting stages). People like this one because it’s shiny and iridescent. (and I liked that I could use metallic watercolor for it!)

Those are so cool! I always love your native species series.

What interesting, colorful bugs! Great idea for a postcard series.

I love these! And I love your native critters series, as well. It lightened my heart a little to hear that the moths were recently discovered to not be extinct!
