I tried growing potatoes in egg crates and a broken laundry hamper - I think it’s going to work but I would add cardboard to the inside of it before putting in the soil to help it retain moisture. I also have been trying milk spray (2:8 milk and water) for powdered mildew on my pumpkins and so it seems to be making some sort of a difference. Apparently if the milk gets all over the tops and bottoms of the leaves, the sun (you must do this when it’s really bright out and sunny) will activate the fat in the milk and somehow it turns into an antiseptic to kill the fungus. Next I will try vinegar, dishsoap and water - I’ll let you know how it goes.
The sunflowers are mammoth sunflowers (one is approx 8 ft tall!) And my poor tomatoes have since been pruned and restaked (I know it was so bad, but they had to be moved).
The delphiniums (grandiflora) Im flabbergasted by! I didn’t think I was going to get any flowers this year. It’s a perennial so very excited to see what it do next year.
There’s also Grandpa Otts Morning Glories on the trellis, Marine Blue Riviera Lobelia pooling in the corner, some lemon sizzle frizzled pansies, dark purple pansies and marigolds… I’m already planning for next year too! Show me your gardens!
Not many photos on my phone. Evening primrose and… verbena that grew out of a pot my neighbor put out a couple years ago it’s been dead, and suddenly… flowers.
I did potatoes in a laundry hamper one of my kids left behind. I used straw on the sides to keep the soil and moisture in. It seems to be working. Give me a few more weeks and it should be time to harvest, so we’ll see how well that worked. As for flowers, I have marigolds and all the little chile and tomatillo flowers…
We had peony & lavender in the front yard this summer, periwinkle that’s trying to take over (aggressive, invasive, but pretty, & safely contained in our very small concrete surrounded yard where it can’t escape). Hosta & clematis by the steps.
The back yard has a magnolia, blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, a couple planter boxes overflowing with cherry tomatoes, drying out now. and a patch of wild amaranth that got weeded early in & came back to it’s small instead of towering.
