I made this set of mosaic coasters for my dad’s birthday in August. I saw the kit on Amazon, and knew he’d love them. I had just enough time to order the kit, put them together, and ship them to him. The box arrived right on his birthday!
I set everything up in my laundry room, and got to work sorting the pieces, and glueing the tiles. Each coaster was an individual kit, so you could do them all one at a time, or could have friends over and each make one. The kits came as black/grey/iridescent, shades of blue, shades of green, and rainbow. Each one came with enough glass pieces to fill the coaster, but I had some iridescent round tiles on hand, that I added in to match each kit. I added 5 round tiles to each because I think things look nice in odd numbers. I really liked the bamboo bases. They were very nice quality, for such an affordable kit.
And after getting cleaned up with a magic eraser sponge. I was worried that the grout would stick to the tiles, but it came right off with a gentle rub of the sponge.
It was a bit hard to get good pictures, because the iridescent tiles wanted to reflect the light, but I’m so happy with how they came out! More importantly, my dad really liked them too.
What a fun project with a lovely outcome, I like the variety of the finished coasters. I also really like the close-up shots, the glimmer of the glass is mesmerizing.
I recently picked up some mosaic glass and just yesterday some glass-cutting tools arrived. It looks like a few of us have been bitten by the mosaic bug. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of your mosaic projects!
