Nerd Games - Fall 2025

Prompt: October Battle Group

Team: So Corn-fused

Project Name: Christmas Goodies Ornaments

Project Link: to be done

Brief Description: Now that Halloween crafting and decorating is done in my house, I am moving on to the other fall and winter holidays. I have had these on my WIP list since 2020!
They are little felt dolls made up to look like holiday treats. There are lots of pieces and lots of steps, including embroidery. I turned them into ornaments by adding a hanger to the top.
Here is the GROUP shot.

Sorry everyone! I feel like I’m already falling off the wagon! I’ve still been making stuff, but haven’t had much of a chance to get on these internets…

Project Name: Manu Stones - part 3

Project Link: Painted Bird Stones - Part 3

Brief Description: Rocks are hard to the touch, and some of them are magnetic!

Project Photo(s):

And this next one wasn’t intended to be a craft project at all, but because it took so long, and I used all salvaged and repurposed supplies, I’m also submitting it for the
DEMOLITION DERBY County Fair Event!

Prompt: Big Time #1

Team: So Corn-fused

Project Name: Chicken run screen-in

Project Link:

Brief Description: Ughhh this took WAY TOO LONG. I got an extra wire run for my chookns, to give them some extra space, but part of the reason they’re enclosed in the first place is to try and avoid H5N1 if at all possible, which means it won’t help much when the little wild doves can just fit through the holes. Luckily, I had some screen material leftover from another chicken enclosure I built, so I used it to cover this coop…I hand-sewed everything on with a strong cotton yarn. Toward the end, rhe bits of screen I had left required a lot of frankenstein-ing to get it covered, but I think it works pretty well! And it took a really long time and my left foot ended up super tan from being outside!

At first I told myself I was taking a quarter off from the Games to focus on other things, but I just couldn’t do it.

Prompt: Research Project (This is also my Blue Ribbon Fabric & Fiber Project)
Team: Gourd of the Rings
Project Name: Patchwork Coat
Project Link: Patchwork Coat
Brief Description: I basically made a quilt and then turned it into a coat. It was a lot of fun picking fabrics, fabric placement, learning a new machine, and actually being able to wear a coat that I made! I am super proud of myself for buckling down and doing it.

If you had to guess, how many hours do you think it took to do this coat? There are so many steps and lots of planning, so I am guess a few weeks at least with no life interruptions? It is fabulous!

I don’t even want to guess. A lot of it was laying out the fabrics, and then I switched the panels on the front so all that hard work went out the window. LOL! Hours and hours and hours and hours and days.

Probably why I have never made one…it is a labor of love!

In all fairness, I am new to quilting and haven’t learned many tricks on that. I am sure my next one (one day) will be a lot quicker.

Y’all! The advent style countdown has started. Want some extra prompts to capture all your holiday or end-of-year crafting? This is it!

I’m mixing things up this year, to give ample crafting time and use a different theme. Check it out!

All “12 Days of Crafting” prompts function the exact same as regular monthly prompts in terms of rules and points. They’re literally just extra, optional prompts to submit more projects. On the header, list “Day 1,” “Day 2,” etc. as the prompt titles.

Let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Project Name: Team Spirit Colors!

Project Link: Blue and White

Brief Description: My husband and most of my family and friends are really big Penn State Football fans. Everyone gets into the games with cookouts, game watching get togethers, zoom meetings, etc. etc. I would rather be reading or crafting, but I tag along and try to pay attention to what is happening and get into everyone else’s excitement.

Anyway, this is as close to sporty as I can get. I made two projects in Penn State colors, deep blue and white. Did you know that the actual color is licensed so if you want to buy official Penn State blue, you have to order it and pay a bit extra? My nephew and his wife painted their game room Penn State Blue and I have made many Penn State fleece blankets for various people.

Even though they are having a lousy year, GO PENN STATE!

I’m currently at the tail end of a day powered by 2 hours of sleep, where a lot of crafting happened, but not much to show for it yet. I hope this entry is coherent

Prompt: October battle - Group
Team: Gourd of the Rings
Project Name: Sushi for everyone
Project Link: TBA
Brief Description:
My daughter really loves sushi, and asked that we order some for dinner one night. We checked some of the usual places we order from, and the prices have really gone up. So, we set out to make our own. It took us a few days to get our schedules and available ingredients to line up, and then we had enough for 2 sushi nights in a row, plus some pieces for the kid’s lunch box. Sure, it took longer than ordering, but I enjoy cooking and food related stuff, and it made the entire thing way more affordable. This will happen again, for sure.
I chose group for the battle, because it was a group effort, both in making and in eating

Wow, your sushi looks great! What a nice new skill to have, now you can make any sort of sushi creation that sounds good. Also, your entry was impressively coherent for only two hours of sleep. I hope you’re now on your way to a good night’s rest!

Looks so yummy! I am horrid at rolling despite my mother’s several attempts to teach me. And, yes, the ingredients are relatively affordable so what you pay for is the labor to make them. Sounds like you and your daughter put the effort in and had fun doing it, so that is a win/win!

I think I hit all the October prompts so now I am working on the countdown and the fair prompts until November prompts are posted! These games are fun and sure are motivating to get things done!
