Prompt: August Battle - Meadow/Talk to Aimee
Team: Nurturing Druid
Project Name: Book Jacket
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: I spent the first week of August gishing! Lots of fun projects came out of it, as usual. I sewed this little jacket for a literal interpretation of “book jacket.” I’m talking to Aimee the Rogue Quilter, so it’s a sewing project.

Prompt: August - Meadow - Aimee - Printing the Pattern
Team: Nurturing Druid
Project Name: Debt Gala Dress
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: Another gish project. This prompt required us to use old bills and receipts to make a dress for the “Debt Gala” à la the Met Gala.

Project Photo(s):

Prompt: August - Meadow - Aimee - Stitch Length
Team: Nurturing Druid
Project Name: Celebrity Dress Up
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: Yes, more gish. This one wanted us “dressing up” a favorite celebrity using the world around us. I selected one image to represent it here, but it was a video with 50 different pictures like this.

Project Photo(s):

Prompt: August - Meadow - Aimee - Ironing is Key
Team: Nurturing Druid
Project Name: Our Flag Means Creation
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: For this gish prompt, we had to create a flag that represented our team. I designed, cut, and sewed it, and really like how it turned out. The letters are iron-on vinyl, everything else is fabric (and the thread on the needle is yarn).

Project Photo(s):

Prompt: August - Meadow - Aimee - Cutting Rulers
Team: Nurturing Druid
Project Name: Pocket Dress
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: Gish wanted a garment made entirely of pockets. My mom and I worked on this one together, but I still did way more than 30 minutes of work on it. The whole dress is just rows of pockets. We filled them with Beanie Babies because it was dumb and funny, and had to show off the pockets somehow. :joy:

Project Photo(s):

Prompt: August - Meadow- Aimee - Batting
Team: Nurturing Druid
Project Name: Everything Bagel
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: Again, for gish, they wanted us to bake a bagel and fill it with “everything,” like in the movie Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. I baked a giant bagel from scratch (I was limited to the pot size I had to boil it, or it would have been bigger!). It was just a little under 12" across by the time it was done. I filled it with my favorite things and important people.

Prompt: Research Project
Team: Nurturing Druid
Project Name: Acrylic Panel Collage - Self-Portrait
Project Link: Acrylic Panel Collage
Brief Description: There’s more info in the link. This is my crafty self-portrait for the prize event! It was a beast of an undertaking - much more than I anticipated. It was easily 40 hours of work fussy cutting, arranging (and rearranging, and rearranging, and rearranging) to make the layers effective, and researching WTF I was even trying to do. But, I like it!

And, here is my crafty character sheet, also for the prize event:

Catching up on comments.

First, thank you to @Smeddley for this amazing CYOA season! It is so much time, effort, and organization. You rock and we are so blessed to have you! And, of course, thank you to @storerboughtcreation as well, for being our ever stalwart leader!

@storerboughtcreation - So many amazing projects! You continuously blow my mind. The unicorn is adorable, and these blankets…I just…my jaw literally drops every time (usually followed by an audible gasp). I love practical crafts - that trimmer bag is excellent, and the macrame style owl is so cool!

@gozer - Your dolls always look amazing! Those fabrics are super cool and are going to be such fun outfits. Stunning artwork, too - you’re such an art inspiration to me. The icon pocket letter - gorgeous, and that dino tote! Omg! The fabric is adorable! And I know how great your bags are, being a proud owner of one. :smiley:

@appledainty - Your hanagushi is incredible! I actually showed my partner and said, “Look at how cool this is!” and scrolled through all of them. And that chair! OH MY! Stellar! Wildly in love with the embroidery!

@QueenHobo - That sign is lovely, and the front door seems like a perfect spot!

@roler - I love your Parappa the Rapper ATC - I still have that game in my collection, even though I don’t have a PS that will play it anymore. :smile: :musical_note:“Kick, Punch, It’s All In The Mind!” :musical_note: :star_struck: And the chonky Snorlax is SQUEE!

@Bunny1kenobi - Those coasters are so cool! I know someone who would be drooling. Your jewelry is always so pretty (I have a few of your necklaces that I wear!), and your miniatures are immaculate, as usual. Very cute TM patch, too, and that ATC is delightful!

@Tanath - Those cards are great! I love the effect on the hearts!

@craftADDchick - I love your triptych! Embracing summer - you’ve got me longing for a beach view. Your statement about getting better and needing to pick up the brush - YES! I needed to be reminded of that. And your sandcastle that won’t wash away - excellent!

@Smeddley - That paw print is so cool! I can’t believe you did that background with melted crayon!

Keep being amazing, everyone!

And, don’t forget about the Prize Event!

I hope I’m doing this right, August has sapped out my motivation and most of my brain power. Hopefully a new month will help reset it.

Prompt: August - Bridge - Marta - Battle
Team: Berserker Barbarian
Project Name: Chinese fast food style beef
Project Link:
Brief Description:
I first tried this recipe a couple months ago, and it has since been a hit in our house and made a few appearances all summer long. I found it on a popular Israeli food blog, she has a lot of really good simple recipes.
Here’s the recipe link, run through Google translate (it did an ok job on the translation):
https://nikib-co-il.translate.goog/main-course/129803/?_x_tr_sl=iw&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp
I made some variations based on what I had in my kitchen and the cooking time was longer for me than what is written in the recipe. The original recipe uses red bell peppers, and those are nice and a good way of using peppers that are no longer nice enough for a salad. But I’ve also made it a few times with mushrooms, and that’s yummy too.
Of course, talking with Marta, who is a cook, I had to share some food.
Project Photo(s):
with peppers, over rice:

cooked leftovers from the mushroom variation inside a malawach (a sort of puff pastry) as a quick lunch:

I will catch up on commenting soon, but I need to get my battle in! New prompts will be up some time tomorrow, I still have some checking and finishing touches, and unfortunately some work to do during the day tomorrow. Grrrr…

Prompt: August Battle: (Ambrose) - Forest/Wendy the Human Fighter Seamstress
Team: Team Berserker Barbarian
Project Name: Lion Blood Drop
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: My new coworkers are keeping me busy requesting blood drops! Which is nice, but wow are some of them more work than others… this one isn’t hard, exactly, but the mane is troublesome if you’re not willing to cut the yarn too long to make it easy to pull through the blood drop stitches (which of course I’m not, I don’t want to waste yarn!).

Simba lived in the forest, and in the end he was quite the fighter, so… Forest and Fighter it is!

Project Name: Craft Hat (Fail)

Project Link: n/a

Brief Description: I had planned an activity today where my students would look at my (unexpectedly large) collection of hats (baseball and bucket hats… I left my extra fun hats at home) and try to figure out one fact about me. I realized that my hat collection didn’t have anything to represent my craft-loving side, so I decided to make one. Unfortunately, it came out awful. For some reason, bits of flocking and adhesive stuck onto the hat from the area that I weeded. And, parts of the design just wouldn’t stick. I’ve had this flocked HTV for a while, so I’m wondering if that contributed to the lack of success. In any case, I couldn’t use it for my activity, but at least now I have a year to make another one! And, I used a design with scissors because a seamstress just can’t live without scissors!
