"Quick" n Messy, Stash-built Easter Basket

For all the years we’ve been giving our dogs an Easter egg hunt, I’ve needed a basket with a long-ish handle to collect the emptied eggs in. But the idea of trying to store such a basket meant that for all the years we’ve been giving our dogs an Easter egg hunt we’ve been using a very frustrating plastic bag until this year when I committed to using up my stash of 1 1/8" bias tape and unsold Collar Cozies.

The main body of the basket is made from one style of Collar Cozies set and I forced myself to not open seams or to remove hems or labels. The handle and top piece of the basket are made from the bias tapes that hadn’t been “cozied.”

I thought that because the strips were already made and that I wasn’t going to fuss about making nice seams, etc. that it would be quite a bit quicker than it was. One in progress shot. Regardless, I now have an easy to carry while photographing, crushable basket.

Special thanks to Bigfoot for modeling.

Very nice use of stash and a clever way to use strips.

I was thinking how great it is to have a basket that didn’t need to be lined. I see possibilities for other than an Easter basket!

The labels are a fun, unplanned touch.

Thanks! This was meant to be a one-off project, but of course I have thought of at least a few different ways to make others using different/better materials.

Hurray for easy storage!
And for using stash. The basket is great. I bet Bigfoot is really good at egg hunting, he’s an expert in hiding.

Thank you! Bigfoot knows to look where no one would think to!

I love the woven look! Perfectly seasonal and so colourful and patternful as well. Nicely done, great reuse.

Thanks! This project ticked so many boxes without costing any money or additional waste to my life. WOO!
