Another cute and practical project!
I have plenty of pot holders, but I always need cat-related items! Also a good way to use up some old toweling since I want to get new towels but the linen closet is full of the old ones!

I’m working on binding all these dang placemats, and I’m so ready to be done with them. I had hoped I had enough black binding cut, but what I had only covered 4 of the 6. So I just cut more strips from a new bolt of the same fabric. Crossing my fingers that it actually looks the same.
G’ahhhh… I’m so close. One out of six done; the other five have the binding sewn to the back and spliced, but still need to be flipped to the front and stitched down.
No photos (yet!) But I finally fully finished mom’s butterfly quilt! She loves the back of it. And the front! But at the moment she got the back side facing up hahaha. The gold butterflies on the back go with her gold curtains lol. She did immediately make her bed, pull her top quilt off (a commercial made one I found at Goodwill bins a few years ago) and put mine on.
My phone battery was dead but she promised to get photos later. She wants to show it off on FB.
We have a special Mother’s Day Bingo call!
Today’s Bingo prompt is:
Quilt your project
I feel you. I just need to bind the cat mats, but… I don’t wanna .
But the finished one looks great, black is a perfect colour to frame them.
Beautiful! The black really pops those fabrics!
They’re done and they look great!
They are really great. The fabric selection is on point!
I love the fun and whimsy of your scrappy cat mats! I also like how they coordinate, yet are each so unique.
@AIMR, how was your trip to the quilt shop this past weekend? Did you pick up your mystery quilt fabric?
I ended up stopping by my ‘local’ quilt shop this past Saturday. Sadly, I was disappointed by my trip. The shop has a new owner and it now has about half the inventory that it used to. It was unbearably warm in there (like at least 85-90° inside the shop) and when I asked a worker about it, she said that it was expensive to run the air. My husband also noticed a very strong mildew scent (ironically, I’m usually the one who can better smell stuff, but this time, his nose was more sensitive to the smell). On top of that, the machine side of the store was a disorganized mess. I used to really enjoy going to this quilt shop, but I have been disappointed (and hot) the couple of times I’ve been there since the new owner took over and I don’t think I’ll be going back there again.
That’s a real shame, when going somewhere is a treat, it’s such a disappointment when things change for the worse.
I get it…I did pick up my fabrics and had a look around the store. I mentioned that someone in my online quilting group bought the same package…the owner immediately said your name!
Anyway, it was a bit overwhelming since it was my first time there. They had a lot of notions and a decent amount of nice fabrics. I’ll have to check it out more when I have more time.
I love the colorway of the bundle we picked and can’t wait to see what it will make!
That makes me smile . My fabrics shipped out yesterday. I’m excited to see them in person!
Yes, they were packing up to ship yesterday while I was there! She thought it was cool that we both got her favorite bundle!
Today is another bingo call day!
If you want to play, but haven’t set up your bingo card there’s still time! All Bingo information can be found here, including the link to create your bingo cards.
Today’s bingo call is:
Use 2.5" strips
(If you have a quilt needing binding, that would be a great way to fulfill this prompt )
Time to get a few prompts crossed off my bingo card…
Favorite quilt pattern - I really like the version of the disappearing 9 patch that provides a square framed with sashing and cornerstones. It’s what I’ve used for my I-Spy quilts as well as the Christmas quilt linked above. I feel like it’s a nice classic design and it does a great job of showcasing the fabric.
Favorite quilting tool - I definitely prefer Creative Grids quilting rulers and my favorite of them is the stripology ruler. I can quickly cut fabric into strips of various widths with this ruler and it makes subcutting super easy as well (here’s a more in-depth ‘review’ that I previously wrote on this ruler).
I bought that quilting ruler but totally forgot why…there was a very interesting video that I saw about cutting strips and weaving them…one of my goals this year is to use tools that I purchased and have yet to use…
My favorite quilting tool, when I use it, is the add a quarter ruler
It is makes paper piecing so much easier, along with my small cutting mat and an old postcard.
I have so many favorite go-to quilting patterns, but for some “wow” factor that is pretty quick, I like the Friendship Braid. You can use various strip widths to create a lot of different looks. I like using it for table runners, mug rugs, pouches, and quilts.
Here is a sample I made using some scrap leftover strips:
I also love the versatility of the Stacked Coins patterns. No two are every alike!
Remember my three Little Ghost quilts, that were quilted months ago? Yeah, between working on birthday shenanigans, donation quilts, and a toddler who refused to nap, those never got bound. Thankfully she napped yesterday and today, and I was able to get one done each day! I even got the binding prepped for the last one.
