From a fat quarter I bought at Dollar Tree!
Cute focal center. You did a nice job of picking colors in the same family…lots of movement in one block!
Maybe this Hunter’s Star block? It has regular & paper pieced templates.
@AudiobookLover I sent a message to you with a block nomination last night, but now I’m not seeing it. Did you get my message?
Though I’ll post here anyhow. Every time I start looking at the free block patterns I get hung up on zdavid and Goliath. So I’ll nominate this block.
Yes, I did get your message. Thank you for a great block nomination!

Thanks. I forgot you have to click the envelope TWICE to see the full mail box lol.
I, EclecticDreamer, have finished 2 items off my Q1 list;
Breast Cancer Quilt Top
Red White Blue Xmas Quilt top
I’ll post pics tomorrow.
FYI: It might look like I’m getting tons done in an insanely fast time. But really I’m just forcing myself to finish UFO’s. Like the RWB one I just finished - it’s only needed 4 rows sewn and the borders. It’s been out of sight/out of mind for 2 years. I seriously have at least one quilt top that just needs me to cut and sew on a border. Though some of my UFO’s are also in “I bought the fabric” stages.
I, AIMR, submit this as my current January 2025 BOM. It is also one of my goal items.
One of my other general goals is to use up what I have in my stash. I am challenging myself to use up the odd fat quarters I have in each of my color bins. This is all made from the ones in the blue bin.
ooh…and I get a Bingo square for using up stash fabrics that have been in my bins for well over…let’s just say, a long time!
I, EclecticDtramer, have completed another item from my quartery challenge.
Maroon Roses Charity quilt too
Everybody loved this one. Though i wasn’t paying attention and had it held upside down. Also if you look closely one of the borders is sewn backwards. I fixed it, but the person taking pictures was gone by then.
Linda, your BOM is beautiful. The blues and whites are like classic china patterns. They seem like they were made to go together. Beautiful.
Opinions needed… Which layout do you guys like best?

I used scraps from my quilt, to make a few improv/wonky log cabin blocks. I had offcut HST’s, that I turned into diamonds, then used the diamonds as the inner parts of the log cabins. After that I just let size of scrap determine what came next. (Not sure I like the black being the next color, but I had all these scraps exactly the right length.)
Despite my best effort to make them wonky-ish, most of my scraps were very straight cuts, so the blocks still came out relatively straight. The only wonk that really happened, was by using different widths of strips, gave me different amounts of purple on the edges. I have no idea what I’m going to do with these blocks. Maybe a tote bag? Once I sew the log cabins together, they will be 14" finished (14.5" unfinished). It seems too small for a pillow.
Great job Shawna!
I love layout #1! The other two just seem out of balance to me somehow.
I like #2.
I’m no great help because I like nr 3…
@AIMR They do indeed look like classic china! I like how the block turned out.
@EclecticDreamer You’ve worked very hard!! I’ve never made a quilt top with such large pieces of fabric, but I really like that look. But my favourite of the 3 is the Christmas quilt. I really love that block with the oldfashioned farm as the center piece.
@Immaculata there’s a woman on YouTube, Darlene Michaud, and a few years ago she did a disappearing nine patch with fat quarters. Her attitude made me laugh (warning: bad language happens. And snark) and I became overwhelmingly enchanted with the idea of D9P with fat quarters. Every time I say “no more” I turn around and “oooh… new fat quarter bundle. How will those look?”
The Xmas barn top was a kit from our quilds charity group. One member had bought an accuquilt and went crazy with cutting and designing kits.
Thank you…I saw that I cut off a few points and didn’t quite get the bottom left corner right after I saw the picture, so I did a bit of fixing…I am probably going to make this into a “company” quilt now that I am back in cold weather…I like having a basket of blanket and quilts for any guest to use while visiting, but many take them home…I won’t mind…ha
I’m also on team #3.
@AIMR, nice job using up your stash! You coordinated your blues so nicely!
@EclecticDreamer, I would not have realized that was a disappearing 9 patch if you hadn’t mentioned it. I’ve never considered creating such large blocks with fat quarters. What an eye opener!
Sorry, it’s been a crazy week and I completely forgot to reply re: wool batting. I used a different brand, but I think they all typically use a small amount of synthetic fiber+heat to bind the fiber together, paired with a superwash treatment of the wool. That means you can wash them in cool water, but should air dry. I didn’t feel like there was any tangible difference in handling/quilting the wool. It is warmer than cotton, but seems lighter. The loft was similar - light. My kids love those quilts and they are in constant use year round.
Thanks! Sounds like it’s worth a try for the next few winter quilts. I hadn’t thought about the air drying yet, but of course, it makes a lot of sense that wool batting should not go in the dryer. That’s not an issue for us, but I wouldn’t want to gift someone a quilt that can’t go into the dryer.
The hexie quilt that I’ve been working on for ages was basted at the longarm place, as it was just too big for me to deal with at home, and she used bamboo batting (not sure of the brand). I like the drape, and because it’s relatively thin it’s easy to fold up and bring with you. I imagine it would be a great quilt for someone who has a fever, because even after I’ve been working on it for two hours, the fabric still feels relatively cool. It will be a great summer quilt.
I’ve been trying to work from stash instead of buying new supplies, which means I’ve made progress on a lot of WIPS/UFOs, but now I really need to order a lot of batting to finish them all.
