I’m participating in the Nerd Games and one of my BINGO squares is raffia. Raffia is a tough one because most of the stuff people make is really not my style. I like some of the baskets that I see people make but I’m trying very hard not to buy a bunch of supplies. All I have on hand is paper raffia and I didn’t want a basket made of paper.
I was intrigued by a few craft books from the 70’s I found that used raffia to make little figurines for decor purposes. So I figured maybe I could make a figurine of some sort and then I found this video tutorial for making a raffia bird.
@Tapestry I have decoupage as well. I think I know what I’m going to do. E and I had a lovely conversation on the difference between decoupage and collage that led to us looking for clear definitions. Spoiler…definitions are muddy at best and as someone who fixates on categorizing things into neat boxes…none of the definitions enabled me to really do that. Best as I can tell, sometimes things are clearly collage and sometimes they are clearly decoupage and sometimes you can probanly argue it’s either one or both. Heh.
Thanks! I was pretty happy to land on something I would actually use. Raffia both the plant and paper version is an interesting craft supply. I only had the paper version because I’ve used for gift wrapping.
