Rainbow Mural!

A few months back, I had suggested to my little one that we should paint something fun on an odd small wall in her bedroom. We played with mermaid scales or stripes before she decided she wanted “a rainbow, but a whole rainbow showing both ends.”

Given the size of the wall, we opted for a tall, skinny rainbow, and of course decided we also needed to add pink! We got tester pots of the stripe colours and a small can of the blue for the sky background, which was formerly gray.

Once the blue was dry, I set to work with a ruler, a homemade pencil-on-a-string compass, and lots of frog tape. Math isn’t my strong suit, so I’m pleased this measured out pretty well!

I painted a layer of blue over the edges of the tape, since I read somewhere that painting your base wall colour over the tape helps keep the other colours from bleeding underneath. It worked extremely well and I will definitely do that again!

I painted alternating stripes before peeling the tape and painting the in-between stripes by hand. My helper tuckered out in about 1.5 minutes and this became a mom project instead of a “mommy and me”. :joy:

Next up we’ll paint the shelf that goes above the rainbow so we can put it back up, and then maybe some cloud and sun stickers above the shelf. For now, I’m pretty pleased with this colourful addition to her room!

(And I think she is too).

Lil’pants is so charming :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
And this rainbow wall is terrific!
What will you do with the outlet, any interesting plans?
I picked up a cute fairy door outlet cover a while ago & also thought of making something like this out of paperclay or something.

Whatever you do, I look forward to seeing the magic you get up to!

Oh those are cute! I’m thinking about either painting it to match, or getting a fun one. I have a strawberry shaped one that matches another in her room.

We have a little counter my husband built that goes in front of part of the wall, and she plays shop there. Once we get that painted we may get new ideas!

It came out great! I bet you could find/make a bird shaped cover for the outlet. That would be cute.

It looks fantastic, and the pink stripe is :100: an awesome rainbow stripe. I also just saw a decor video where someone used the same technique with the base paint on the tape. It really makes nice lines.

This turned out so good! You really made a tall, narrow rainbow look like it was totally meant to be, not just meant to fit. She’s adorable in her joy!

Those edges are so crisp. Doing the in-between by hand must have been nerve-wrecking. It looks SO good. I love it (and the addition of the pink)!!!
