Nice job!
I don’t have a lot of things to mend now, but I am in the process of going through my clothes and household items to see what needs to be repurposed.
I watched a video that inspired me to look at the clothes I quit wearing to figure out why.
For many of the items, I am just bored with them. Things like changing buttons, or a neckline or adding trim are some ideas I want to try.
I don’t want to overwhelm myself, so it’s not like I am trying everything on all at once. I am wearing the item all day and then figuring out what is “wrong”. My first blouse just needs the weird sleeves redone.
That’s a great idea. I have a few pieces hanging in my closet that I don’t wear. I’m sure most just need a styling adjustment to make them more appealing to me.

Oh…I am going to take pictures of BEFORE and AFTER…I am just about ready to cut into my first project!
I finally managed to steal back the coat I bought for doing field archaeology (it’s an XL quilted flannel shirt) 20 years ago from my daughter long enough to wash it & patch the sleeve ends & the bit she ripped…
A shirt dress that I made previously no longer fit after I lost weight, and altering it was more work than it was worth. So, I removed the bodice and re-did the waistband. And now I have something to wear to a baby shower in a few weeks (not with that shirt, though… that’s just what the mannequin wears).
Smart way to repurpose that dress! I think you made that dress relatively recently, so you probably didn’t get to wear it a lot before your size changed, hopefully this way you can get some more wear out of it. I think the fabric really works for a skirt and the belt loops at the waist are a nice extra touch.
Thanks! I think I wore it once. The sleeves were always a bit awkward and maxi might not be the right length for me + a structured fabric. Honestly, it was just a toile, so I never expected much out of it (other than using it to see what adjustments I needed for the black dress I made from that pattern).

That’s a lot of nice fabric to save and repurpose!
I have been watching a lot of repurpose videos lately. One creator said to think of clothing as fabric to make it easier to see what it can become. I agree with this.
Great job! It is now a lovely, versatile skirt to wear in many ways!
This morning when I woke up and opened the backdoor, it was so nice and cool and crisp. The weather is still pretty warm for the time of the year, but you can feel the summer is making way for autumn. Today was a bit of a meh day with not a lot of energy, so I decided to tackle my sock mending pile. It’s a big pile, as I’d been putting it off and I do both my own and my mum’s mending.
I still need to tackle a couple of pairs of cotton tights but the socks are done! I used several methods - traditional darning (creating a grid and weaving the threads) using a crochet needle to replace broken stitches, and duplicate stitching. In some cases I used several methods. You can see not all of them are super neat, I just wanted to get them done today. Now we both have plenty of warm socks ready for cooler weather.

Mending socks is very satisfying once it is done! Hand knit socks are definitely worth mending and I do like that with each mend, they get a bit more “scrappy”. Well done!
I scored some mending wool at a thrift store today! I have some I’ve inherited and it’s very handy for mending commercial knits.
Today we helped my mother in law with a lot of the clothes belonging to my late father in law. I think we had four large trash bags to throw away/recycle. One moving carton, a large trash bag, several suit jackets and a filled IKEA-bag for donating, and a couple items my husband will be able to use.
We went to the closest larger town to donate. It’s a really good thrift store so we took a look after leaving the clothes. Their craft selection is impressive and the mending wool was a nice surprise. More colours to mend with!
Great find! It’s hard to find new in stores these days, at least around here. I have a ton of it, I inherited from both sets of grandmothers and a great aunt. It still doesn’t take up a lot of space, and it’s so neat to have be able to find a nice colour for all mends. For mending handknit socks I usually use leftover bits of the original yarn if I have them.
Also good to hear you guys donated so many clothes that belonged to your late father-in-law. It’s hard to go through a deceased person’s belongings, but it’s a good thing that his clothes will now be used by other people instead of going to waste.
It’s been a rough couple of weeks. I do have a couple mends to do that would fit with the november theme, but here I am - starting a mend on a very much not handmade tank top… I could freeform something, but I wanted to use the loom.
A bit wonky, but it’s ok for an undergarment, and better than the hole. This was done with one cat ”helping” and one cat demanding cuddles so it really is a roaring success.
I couldn’t find my darning mushroom, so I had to just stick my hand in the sock to darn these. They’re my favorite pair of handknit socks, so I had to attempt to save them. Still need to weave in the ends, but this was as much tediousness as my brain could handle tonight.

Nice job!
Have you ever used the stretchy nylon thread to mend? Apparently you hold it with your yarn to knit or mend. I am going to try it on some heels to see if it makes a difference. I don’t wear knit socks but I have a friend who likes them. She seems to wear out the heels first. I keep telling her to wear the socks with clogs! lol
