Any pants I have had with a zipper in back were NOT lounge pants! Not very stretchy and certainly the zipper was not so long as to be sat upon… how ODD that yours were made that way!
I don’t think I’ve had any pants with a zipper in the back, I have had dress pants that had a hidden zipper in the side seam but not in the back. From the outside, it doesn’t really look like it’s too long, but I do really notice it while wearing it. Maybe part of that is because they’re lounge pants, you wear them for Netflix & craft, and you sit in a different way than you would sit on a chair.
Absolutely. Lounge pants should not have zippers at all! It ought to be illegal unless prescribed by a doctor.
I’ve had one pair in the past with a zipper in the back. The zipper was short, so was never sat upon, but the pants were difficult to put on.
I knew a woman at my old law office that had a dress with a zipper going all the way down the back. She had a desk job so sitting was all she did. Well, the zipper separated right at the butt area and could not be put back together so she ended up wearing her cardigan tied around her waist. I vowed never to get anything with a back zipper after that!
Yikes, that must have been so awkward at work! Of course it seperated in the butt area of all places.
A long time ago I used to have a dress with a full zipper down the front. It was a really nice dress and very comfortable. But I stopped wearing it at work due to lewd comments from old men and one coworker in particular I believed when he joked he was going to pull the zipper down one day.
I hate dresses with zippers at the back, I don’t want to ask for help getting dressed. When I make clothes I always try to use a side zip.
That’s also why I stopped wearing my dress with a zipper up front. If I did wear it, I put a safety pin under the zip on the inside so it couldn’t be pulled down even if someone tried. Some men can be pigs.
I fixed a hole in Mr Imma’s jogging shorts. I wish he threw those ugly old shorts out, but they’re his favourite to wear at home so he asked me to mend them. It’s crazy that it’s still so warm he’s wearing shorts in October.
I ripped out the zipper from my lounge pants and I hope to sew them back together today. The waistband is an empty tunnel. I’ll try them on when they’re sewn together and if it’s still a bit loose I can put elastic in the tunnel. The zipper was a nice long (8" ) invisible zipper so I added that to the zipper bin. I also saved nice metal zippers with interesting zipper pulls from a used skirt that was passed along to me. It was made from cheap fake leather, and already showed some small tears. It sat on my shelf for a while, teared more when I finally tried to wear it, so I got rid of it instead, but I couldn’t resist saving the nice zippers.
My grandmothers took off buttons, zippers, bra hooks off of everything they discarded. I’m not always that conscientious but zippers are becoming so expensive, if they’re still in good shape I don’t mind spending 5 minutes ripping them out. It’s also a nice mindless TV task.
I absolutely save zippers, but the number of saved bra hooks is getting oppressive given that I’m not entirely sure I’ve ever re-used one in my life.
(and there was a stack of them from my aunt & grandmother’s sewing supplies…)
Yeah, I’ve inherited enough of them that I’ve got a lifetime supply of bra hooks too, even though I’ve never used them either. I save and re-use zippers, and also backpack / bag hardware. I didn’t save them previously but when I needed a replacement part for a backpack it was hard to find commercially, I was lucky my friend was getting rid of an old bag. So I learned my lesson. I even re-used a small D-ring to hang a lamp at exactly the right height! I save interesting buttons, but not all buttons - I also inherited a lifetime supply of buttons. I also save drawstrings from hoodies and jogging pants and have used them for so many things - to replace worn-our or lost drawstrings but also in other projects.
I accidentally brought some mending home from the clothes swap
I haven’t decided yet if I want to go invisible-ish or full on visible mending.
Managed to pick up the ladder at least. 2mm crochet hook was a bit big but worked.
Well that small fix of the run makes for a nearly perfect circle which is so much fun for visible mending. Best of both worlds!
I like how you’re thinking! I’ll work a bit more on the runs and see what I can tidy up and secure first. Looks like just 4 columns gone in total so it’s really not too bad.
I think I’ll either go for a light grey wool and something visible but blending in, or try to find a dark green mystery fibre I have somewhere that I believe is a bit closer in weight to the sweather. Should make for a cute leaf or similar.
Where is it on the sweater, the elbow?
It’s on the arm near the cuff. This is where I ended up for now, after a wash of the garment. I might expand it later.
I secured the live stitches with sewing thread and whip stitched around the hole. Then I grabbed some sock yarn and started a border of chain stitch. The border proved to be a nice frame for weaving to fill in the hole.
The best part: it was all done during stitch night. The restaurant had reslly good lighting for crafting ![]()
