Covid birthdays can kind of suck and I think that might especially be the case for milestone birthdays. So I decided to make some decorations for my household’s milestone birthday coming up in a couple of weeks. My first (?) project is these 3D letters.
January birthdays in the northern climes can be kind of dreary, too, so I decided to GO BIG with the sparkle using this chunky gold glitter paper and teal.
I didn’t really plan for embellishments, but they looked kind of plain w/o them (yes, really), so I dug into my stash and found both the turquoise glitter letters and the gems - both self-adhesive.
The maker of the files suggests things like flax seeds for weight, but I don’t have those and wanted to avoid anything that might invite pests so used these copper BBs from the hardware store that I purchased for the same purpose with these letters I made last spring.
UPDATE: I made this using my Cricut Explore with files from svgcuts.com.

I just know there is going to be some serious partying for all of those missed milestone birthdays and other celebrations…but, in the meantime, wow…get out all the glam and bling you can! Those are fabulous, T…are copper weights heavy? I know I use fishing line lead weights for a lot of things…
They are pretty heavy. I admit I don’t have a lot of BB experience, so I can’t compare them to regular. I presume they are pretty close since they’re meant to replace lead. There’s been a big movement to encourage hunters and fisherfolk to switch to copper since so many birds and other predators are getting sick and dying from lead poisoning from lead in ammunition, etc.

Yes, which is why I was asking…I don’t want to use lead shot in my projects or my scuba weights anymore because of the lead poisoning possibility…
So, I read the label more closely and they are copper-coated steel which would help make them heavy, but keep them from rusting! Given the attitudes of locals here, I imagine the reason the copper was available was that they were sold out of lead.
@PrincessP I made them with my Cricut, but the files are from SVGCuts.com and will work with most digital cutting machines. It’s part of a party kit that comes with numerals 0-9 as well as a few other party type projects.
One cubic centimeter (cc) of lead weighs 11.4 grams, while the same size copper pellet weighs 9 grams.
But these are copper-coated steel; steel weighs only 7.9 grams per cc.
So these would weigh around 70% of similar lead bbs.
