Fabric Types
For underwear I think the most important thing is that it’s 1) breathable 2) stretchy 3) has good recovery (no one wants a saggy butt). Look for a natural fiber with at least 5% spandex/elastic
Main body
- Cotton/spandex jersey
- Bamboo/spandex jersey
Gusset
- 100% cotton jersey (some spandex might be ok here too but might be slightly less breathable)

Notions
Notions will depend on your pattern and preference but here are some common ones
- 5/8" fold over elastic
- Stretch Lace (1-2")
- 1/8-1/4" braided or clear elastic (for leg holes)
- Picot elastic
- Waistband elastic (I believe this is mainly used for more masculine underwear/boxers)
For bras specifically
- Bra-strap elastic
