Use it or lose it! A sharing and caring gift-along

Thank you so much for doing due diligence on that. I tend to be pretty wary of scammers, but didn’t for a moment dream that one would find their way in here, so I would totally have been suckered in. :face_blowing_a_kiss:

Wow–that is sad and scary. You are so vigilant and protective of the members. Hope no one got scammed.

Thanks for looking out Jennie
They asked me for $70 for shipping all of it to me. Seriously tempting.

Thanks Jennie. As soon as I saw the post and noticed they’d only been on the site for a few days, I was wondering if it was a scam. It’s a bummer they got that far but I’m glad they got found out, hopefully, before anyone got scammed.

We try hard to not let them get this far, but we also have to temper our reticence with our desire to see new people join the site. You used to be able to just sign up for a membership here, but after several Spammers showed up, you now have to be approved to join. The Site Mods check out whatever we can about them, especially if they haven’t answered any profile questions, or have a profile pic or name that sounds like a business. We check how long they were reading the site (under 1 minute is a dead giveaway), their IP address, and use Scamalytics to try to see if they are a fraud risk. But of course, scammers find ways around things. It is just as likely that someone won’t fill out profile questionnaires, and be a real person, who just doesn’t want to share too much on a new platform, as it is that they’re a scammer.

Thank you so much for all this xx

Well, no one should be asking for money for free things offered. Yes, many people offer to pay, but that is different than asking for money. If you want to give it away, unless you know each other well, no money should exchange hands. Scammers usually ask for money in advance even if the stuff is free because you will never see it. All of the pictures she posted looked like a legitimate stash. I hate that they play on your emotions as well…saying you are sick and seemingly offering a stash with a brokenheart really touched me. I am mad at that. Oh, well…Jennie caught it and did what had to be done, but now, I wonder if they will reappear as someone else. I am going to be very wary now.

This person took work to figure out. It was finally when I reverse image searched a pic she provided of the items “all boxed up” without a shipping label, that I found 2 other copies of the same picture, but with a shipping label.

Clever!

Our Mods are awesome Mods and I support you as such!

Thank you for keeping the space safe. I’m glad the team was able to catch it before it (hopefully) got too out of hand. Please continue to let us know how we can keep all members safe and the riffraff out

She also private messaged me. I tried to help her out but found it weird that she was so persistent in getting my e-mail and other info.

It’s so good to have a back up “fake” email etc for online stuff. I use that for anything I’m not sure about. Then if it gets spammy you just delete it.

I also have one  But I still don’t give it out to everyone that asks.

She also got reported to Google so her email address will be garbage now.

Okay, so I cheated a little, but when you said that you needed David the Gnome my mind immediately went there.

Childhood memory unlocked.

I know that when I was very very little and my parents were bowlers, I would be in the children section of the bowling alley and one of the things we would do is watch David the Gnome. I don’t remember particulars of the show, just that that was what it was. Also we would play Go Fish and there were toys and other children. The babysitter would use one of those soda guns to give us, well, I remember Sprite, but it was probably fizzy water. Maybe she called it Sprite to fool our little minds into thinking we were having secret soda.

I love it.
My sister and I were so influenced by David the Gnome and the Smurfs- they’re practically our personalities at this point haha
