2025 DeStash-Along

I think that’s a great idea! If you really feel like you won’t be able to use it all up, it needs to go, and if you can sell it, it’s better than donating. I don’t know what kind of supplies you have, but some even increase in value, such as quilt fabrics from certain brands. And otherwise you can still recoup some of the money.

This semi-finished project has been in my UFO pile since our previous house move and took all of 5 minutes to finish. The other one was finished at the time and has been in use as a coaster in my room for the past decade. No idea why it took me so long. Maybe I figured I can only drink one drink at a time? It’s a rag project, so it’s in the laundry hamper now so it will fray.

Prompt: for your workspace

I’m still working on painting my fibreboard magazine files with that ancient paint. So far it’s working out pretty well. I’ve painted 5 3/4 files and used up two bottles, one left (plus white but not sure I want that colour). One bottle was a little bit lumpy but I just avoided using the lumps that I couldn’t dissolve.

Still haven’t found my circle cutter though  I guess I should buy a new one so I’ll find my old one back.

I managed to paint three of each colour, but the third bottle of paint didn’t keep as well as the others.

After completing one, I think I’m giving up on this paint. That means three bottles of paint destashed , two of them used up.

You got good results with the others! What beautiful colors to brighten your room and keep your magazines neat and organized.

I think you mentioned that these were from IKEA. Are they wood or corrugated paper? I need some magazine and loose paper management in my life, and this looks like a delightful way to do it.

EDIT: never mind, I see your post above stating that they are fiberboard. I’ll have to check out our local IKEA.

I was just looking at the Ikea site to see if they still made the wood ones and was so diappointed that they don’t. I want to transfer our owners manuals and such from binders to magazine holders like these after I’m finished building my shelves, but I really want wood ones. They’re reallllly expensive to buy, so I think I will end up making them. whomp whomp.

I’m convinced that @Immaculata’s IKEA has way better stuff than the ones in the US.

@TheMistressT @photojenn yeah, I had some from quite a few years ago that were cardboard and did not hold up to the weight of the magazines. I hadn’t looked yet, but I had already figured that we would not have the same selection that @Immaculata has. That seems to be the case with IKEA in the US versus in Europe.

It’s the Ikea Knuff model. I bought a bunch of them 10 years ago and a few more this year.

You can clearly see the difference between the old and the new version. They used to be made from solid wood, they’re a different material now. I think the English word for that material is fibreboard but I’m not 100% sure. They are still as sturdy as they were before, but they don’t look as good. And what’s more annoying and not mentioned on the website, they used to be all the same size. Now they come in sets of two and one is slightly smaller than the other so they can be stacked more efficiently for shipping. I doesn’t bother me but I’m sure a lot of people would be bothered by it.

It seems ikea.us really does sell different things than ikea.nl! The US ikea website has 9 options for magazine files Magazine Holders & Files - IKEA and we only have 8 Lectuurbakken kopen? | Bekijk onze collectie - IKEA but the Knuff model is not available in the US.

I have wooden ones but they are super thin. I would say half of the wood width…almost like 4 sheets of paper! I started buying metal ones since I don’t like the plastic ones.

I went from binders (cardboard ones) to see through plastic boxes with lids (so horizontal storage) for my craft magazines years ago, after noticing how much dust they all collected. Now they’re dust free.
But of course wood is prettier than plastic.

I used to have storage boxes, but I found I avoided opening them because quickly going through the whole box was difficult. So that’s why I decided to go for vertical storage when we first moved into this house. What helps against dust is that these sit in a bookcase, so the shelf on top protects them from too much dust falling in.

That does help!
Isn’t that why they used to have those crocheted edges at the fronts of the shelves in book cases in the past? As a dust barrier?

I didn’t know that! But that could work I guess. I’m still thinking whether I want that for my bookcase.

Small win but I finished this

Yes, and the other one is really cool, too. I am framing and hanging artwork from swaps in my room right now so I’m hoping for some inspiration from that!

I finished a can of spray glue and a handmade bobbin of embroidery thread today.

I don’t want to say how many decades it spent in my stash…

Oops, almost forgot to finish posting the rest of my February projects. They were in the laundry basket, but are now ready:

This is the Twisted Stripes Hat available free from Yarnspirations.com.

I obviously just used a solid yellow for this month’s color prompt instead of a variegated color as shown in the pattern photo. I used 1024.7 yards / 553 g of yarn for this. Can you believe I still have more than one skein left in my stash? :flushed:

These are some cotton and cotton blend washcloths. I practiced some new-to-me stitch patterns and brioche knitting. I used 177.3 yards / 85g total between the three yarns used. Not a lot, but by then end of the year, I should have a significant amount used.

Your yellow projects are so cheerful!

I liked that pattern but I did it in a variegated yarn so the stitches did not show up so well. I am going to try it again in a solid…yours are so good!
