2025 DeStash-Along

I think i will find a pattern and go ahead and buy the difference. I’ve had this yarn for long enough to know it isnt happening in this quantity.
Thanks for the solidarity, friends!

Joining to finally do something about my paper hoard and my “materials for junk journalling” hoard.

I also have a hoard of junk journalling materials. I have been trying to adopt good habits like filling a bin and when it is full, you have to make something…I have so many journals but don’t really use them. It will be nice to see what you and others make!

Sometimes it’s necessary to buy something, extra yarn to finish a project, the right colour of thread, buttons or a zipper to finish a garment. Just make sure you know exactly what you need before you buy anything, so you don’t create more stash.

I just bought the Musselburgh hat pattern to knit a hat from the snowman leftover yarn. I could use a hat, and I’ve knitted hats before but they never really looked that nice. This yarn is really nice (Drops Air) and a nice yarn needs a good pattern so I will like the hat and wear it. Plus I have a feeling that I might want to knit more Musselburghs in the future.

I have wanted that pattern ever since @tendstowardschaos showed off all the ones she made!

It looks like such a relaxing knit and makes a warm, warm hat!

I am going to buy the Cowltupus first…I need a good knit for some of my stash yarns!

I loved all her hats, and when I was checking Ravelry for knitting ideas for the Drops Air bits, a few really nice Musselburgh’s showed up. I decided that was fate and bought it.

I’m sure most yarnies are already aware of Ravelry, but if not, their search function is great for destashing! Just search for either your exact yarn, or the yarn weight you have, and filter for the amount of yarn you have, and you’ll get pages full of things people have made from that amount of that yarn.

5 minutes ago I sewed the last two wash mitts from my bathrobe scraps. They only take a few minutes each, I’d sewn the other ones a few weeks ago. The left one is store bought, I used that size a inspiration but really, I just eyeballed the size. Garment scraps always have odd shapes so I didn’t cut them all exactly the same size. I still need to post the robe I think but the scraps are gone now!

I’ve knit that pattern twice and it’s a really nice, calm pattern to use up a favorite yarn.

(Have I worn either hat? No. That wasn’t the point, the point was to use the yarn. Now I have to figure out what to do with the finished product)

I love that hat and I wear it all the time. I’m going to be using that pattern to bust a good amount of my lightweight stash this year, too.

@AIMR, That hood is so cute! The option to turn the cowl up to cover your face under the hood is brilliant.

We live at the base of a mountain so the winds are quite brutal in winter (enough to knock over our huge trash bins!)…I want something to cover my face as much as possible without looking like I am going to rob a bank!

My goals for 2025 are similar to the ones I had last year:

  1. Complete my WIP’s.
  2. Don’t purchase anything unless it’s needed to complete a project, i.e. thread, zippers, etc.
  3. Finally start and complete some project kits that I have had at least 20 years.
  4. Reduce my yarn stash substantially so that I can tackle my fabric stash. Last year I think I was gifted more yarn than I used, so my stash quantity increased. :grimacing:

Love these goals - ditto for me!

Nice motto! I’ve been switching away from “practice makes perfect” to “practice makes progress” when I’ve been doing handwriting/calligraphy exercises. I think I’ll try copying out “perfectly imperfect” a few times too :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes! It’s such a good function. I’m often guilty of buying 1 or 2 skeins of pretty yarn with no plan. This function has saved several skeins from unending yarn purgatory (yarngatory??)

My goals for 2025, at least for the next couple of months, are:

  • Finish two gifted quilt tops sitting in my stash with materials grom stash
  • Finish a scrap quilt currently hanging on my design wall with materials grom stash
  • I have to do a deep destash and clean of my craft room. The floor is mysteriously shrinking.
  • Plan my next quilt, or project, or something. I need a new project!

I am currently crocheting baskets and playing with hexies and jewel shape hexies.

I’m getting cranky with this yarn lol.
I’ve been searching and searching so much for a pattern that now I’m starting to not like the yarn, as if it’s its fault that I’m in this predicament.

Let this be a lesson to 2025 me to follow my own rules about no purchases without set plans!

Do you have any other yarns that could work with it? When I have yarn I want to use up, but not enough yardage, sometimes combining it with other yarns can open up more project possibilities.

I don’t have another bulky/super bulky but tomorrow I’m going to look at what can be doubled/trippled up. I really don’t want to buy more if I can help it.

Def that helps too. I’m doubling up on some fingering weight yarn for my latest sweater right now. It’s not a 100% perfect match to the other yarns, but darn close, so I’m pretty chuffed about working this out of stash.

I was going to do so much destash crafting today … but then I just made some ginger toffee crunch for Mr Jemimah and spilled some hot toffee on my hand. Only a little drop, but ouch! One handed crafts for the rest of the day I think.
