This is so snuggly and pretty!!
It looks so great! I’ve yet to start a Musselburgh hat even though I got the pattern weeks ago, but these pictures may convince me to prioritize knitting! I bet it’s so warm.
I found a messenger bag pattern in an old German quilting magazine and tonight I cut the pattern out of upholstery scraps - I skipped the quilting part, I just used the templates for the different pattern pieces. I’m still looking for a matching lining, but I’m sure I’ve got some simple cotton. I’m also going to add a zipper on top (under the “flap”) and if I can find some small zippers in my stash, I’ll add a few zippered pockets in the lining.
I’m sure I’ve got plenty of choice for long zippers, but I’m not sure about small zippers. I may have used them up when I made 4 pouches last month. Not sure if I’m going to buy them if I don’t have them, or design an alternative pocket.
A scrappy bag sounds fun! You could always cut a long zipper to length if you’re out of small ones.
I buy zippers in rolls. You can add a pull to what ever length you want…the problem? The rolls are huge! I have yet to use up a roll of any color!
I’ll get better pictures in daylight, but I managed to destash one skein of random velvet yarn, two different kinds/colors of acrylic yarn, some stuffing and two doll eyes! This “baby” whale is about as big as my medium sized cat!
@AIMR He looks so soft and squishy and just a little bit perturbed.
I have my first stash projects of February to share! They’re kind of on the hairy edge of DeStashing because I very purposely built up a stash of bookcloth at the end of last year so that I could just have my own little shop in the craft room without having to make my own bookcloth or order things online for each project. There’s nothing that kills a project’s momentum like waiting for the mail.
Two little 2.75"x4.25" books (7x10.8cm) with roughly 100 pages each.
And a half-letter folio with a little over 200 pages. I’m especially fond of the endpapers on this one.
So for anyone following along at home, that’s some bookboard, two sheets of sample bookcloth, and 4 sheets of cardstock out of stash. But this is not a part of the hoard I’m particularly worried about reducing the footprint of.
Your books are gorgeous!
What size small zippers are you thinking?? I can look at what I have here somewhere…
I went through my own stash … and it turns out I have enough zippers to continue to make zipper pouches for a while I’ve found fabric for the lining too.
Nice, it’s great when we find stuff in our stash
I looked into the bin with the zippers about two weeks ago, I’m really no sure why my brain registered “not enough”. Maybe because there’s not as much variety in colour as there used to be? I’ve used up a lot of short zippers in fun colours recently. But for the bag, it’s fine if the internal zippers are white or grey.
Some stash-made books to show off.
Some quarter-letter sized to start with:
(I’ve had this printed marble paper in my stash for at least 10 years now.)
(Love the contrast with the black bookcloth but it shows every speck of dust)
And a big half-letter chonker that was my first time rounding a spine:
I’m especially fond of the double sided endpapers
So a grand total of 5 sheets of scrapbook paper down and two of colored cardstock. But I rather like having a large decorative paper stash. It means that when you change your mind of what you want the covers to look like late at night you can find something new to use while you’re waiting for the glue on a previous step to dry.
Love the colors!
I like the colors!
What is your trick for getting them to stand upright? I made a similar basket but it’s pretty floppy. Super tight stitches? My hands cry for you if that’s the case (and me, if that’s the only answer).
No trick, I don’t think. I do crochet fairly tight, but I think it’s the multiple strand thickness. I use an approx. M hook. It a wooden hook that I’ve had forever. Then it’s 3 to 4+ strands to get a nice thick bundle that the hook can handle. Including a scratchy, stiff, ucky yarn helps . I use wool, wool blends, acrylic, unknown content, leftover sock yarn for interest and color, whatever. My DW has a circular sock knitting machine so those thin strands add some fun texture. I seem to be allergic to solid colors.
February supply: batting
I bought new batting on Saturday and had plans to use it, but then I figured I might as well sew some batting scraps together for this finish. Hide and seek quilt
I have several finished tops lying around that also need batting, so I decided to save my new batting for those tops.
Holy baskets! They are impressive in a group…and so many uses.
@Immaculata It’s good that you found a use for batting scraps on your scraps quilt. I need to remember to do this for smaller quilts as well.
I am destashing flannel fabrics today by making more baby bibs for my great niece.
I should be done today…I used up 4 fat quarters of flannel and now just have flannel scraps left for another project…maybe a scrappy bib!
Destashed some flannel and fat quarters!
February prompts met:
For a loved one: my 1 year old grand niece
Supplies: batting
Pattern/Texture: flannel is fuzzy!
Challenge 2:
Going to spend some time tonight sorting my fabric scraps
