2026 DeStash-Along

How do you get it to stand up so nicely? If I tried to crochet a basket it would be flopping all over the place.

I used between 6-8 strands of yarn and a size N hook. Also, after making the circular bottom the size you want, SC in the BL to start the sides. I also do a SL around the top to stiffen the opening.

Oh, and twist the strands as you crochet so that the yarn is almost ropelike…that helps a lot as well.

Do you do amigurumi? Sometimes it helps to use the YU/YO SC to make the stitches very tight. I didn’t do it with this basket because the yarns were so thick. My hand definitely needs a rest after this one!

I definitely feel like destashing more in spring! Especially between Ash Wednesday and Easter as that’s when I’ve been programmed to do the spring clean.

Ever since we got A/C and I started medication that I can’t really go into the sun with, summer has more and more become my craft room season.

I have the perfect project for yellow! Three baby blankets for a friend having triplets.

Yellow is not a favorite color of mine, but I do seem to have a lot of yellow yarns and fabric. Let me see what I can make for the challenge!

Do I hear another basket whispering in your ear? Lol

During COVID, a lot of people were struggling financially, especially musicians and artists. A friend of mine was selling her hand dyed yarn and pottery just to try to make rent. I ended up buying eight skeins of her hand dyed yarn.

To be honest, it was scratchy yarn, and the colors were just not to my taste. It was 100% wool, so first, I made two baskets and felted them. They turned out fuzzy, the colors pooled funny, and they were just “ugly”. So for years, the yarn sat in a basket because I felt too guilty to throw it out or give it away especially since I paid a lot more to help her out.

Anyway, long story short, I passed on some of the yarn to others who could use it for non-clothing items. I still had skeins of it…it seemed to multiply in the bin! I finally decided to use it or lose it…

There is one golf ball size left…finally, it is out of my bin and out of my mind!

The never-ending yarn:

What I made and will use:

I also used up partial skeins of gold, creme and purple . A big destash!

I have two skeins of yellow fingering weight yarn. I think I bought them originally to do one of those temperature blankets, yellow being used for sunny days.

I looked through my patterns and on Ravelry and just can’t think of anything I want to make, but I am determined to remove them from my stash. Any ideas?

I found some glittery yellow yarn while going through my stash. I decided I am going to make a bunch of tiny stars to make a garland for my husband’s little Christmas tree. I have been decorating it with the same decorations for a long time. Time for a change!

Uh, and yeah, one of the stars is six sided since I miscounted on the first one. It won’t matter once it is on the little tree. Not sure how many I will need, but I can make these quickly while watching tv. It is pretty mindless.

I’m so not on track with the prompts, but life has been….well…life. I recently completed this blanket for one of the young ladies who works at our favorite restaurant. This will be her first baby, a girl whose name will start with a “V”. I used the duplicate stitch method for the monogram (my first time using this technique). 898 yards / 274 grams of yarn used.

Close up of the V, just a little off center despite me counting the stitches multiple times before putting it there.

What a lovely way to personalize a blanket! She is going to cry!

I don’t know if she’s a cryer normally, but she’s about 6 weeks out from her due date, so the hormones may be working. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Challenge: We’re coming up to the half-year mark. Are there any crafts you can make that will help boost your feeling of accomplishment for the first half of the year or prepare for the second half? Maybe something like finishing up some works-in-progress from earlier in the year, or pull materials, tools, and pattern for an upcoming big project.

Here’s the pattern:

I wish I could say that I had made this quilt, but it is a family one from the in-laws. I love it too, and we use it all the time.

I’m definitely going to try and get some WIP’s done in the second half of the year. I’m also going to try some basic weaving. My friend lent me her lap sized loom to see if it’s something I like before I buy the tools.

I lost my way during Q2 and stopped making hats for my donation stack, so I need to get back up to speed on those. I was feeling the weight of life on my brain, but I semi-organized my craft area, and that got my mojo running again.
