2026 DeStash-Along

I use it, it’s in stash. The sticker backed version is my fave!

I have some sticky backed letters in stash and a small stack of 6"-ish circles in a few colors, but I destashed the remnant of a roll of white. Today, I’ll pick up a sheet of white and if they have a metallic gold, I’ll get one sheet of that. I think the roll was part of a Beefsquatch costume I was commissioned to make, the rest was purchased for my Bitterview Boneyard, i.e. the Halloween graveyard headstones, etc.

You have confirmed my worst crafty nightmare! I just know the minute I get rid of something, that I will need it! YIKES!

But, as you said, if it is readily available, then the fear should be lessened! (not!)

Well, this got me excited to find pics of that costume and post a thread. And, it turns out that I don’t think I did use the foam for that. I don’t know why I had to buy a roll of it! Anyway, I did get a sheet of white yesterday, but the first white I picked up was… fuzzy! Which seemed perfect for what I wanted it for, so I got one of each. Plus a double sized sheet of metallic gold (the only size they had).

365 Days In Colour Dark Green by Sue Thompson, on Flickr

Color: Green

Challenge: Do you have stuff hanging around your stash that you’ve been meaning to upcycle? Now is the time to process it into something that’s easier to use/store, or to finally make the project.

Catching up on some February projects. I was mostly concentrating on bookbinding but it was too cold/snowy/cloudy for pictures at the time. So here’s the first batch! They’re about 7x4.25 inches and none of the cloths actually match each other despite being in the same general area color-wise.

I think I will have to buy thread today despite having boxes and boxes of it in my stash. But I have been told that it’s not a great idea to use older thread in quilting and since this project will hopefully see a bit of wear and tear I should probably get something fresh.

Oh, and some more books!

The first two are folios (around 8.5 x 5.5 inches), and the last one is another legal quarto like the books above (7 x 4.25 inches).

And that finishes off a pack of green/blue scrapbook paper I picked up from the dollar store in about 2006. Maybe if I try really hard I can use up the red colorway I bought at the same time!

I have been working almost exclusively from stash this year. Well, since the last nail was pounded into JoAnn’s coffin last year, actually. BUT two of my “bigger” projects this year were particularly stashy. The most recent is my Easter Jackalope Nutcracker, but it was only a few weeks before this that I finished a tiny paper model of a friend’s house.

After making one well-received neckerchief for a neighbor dog who always wears one and immediately gets them filthy, I asked his dad if it would be OK if I made him some more. He gave enthusiastic approval! So yesterday I dug through my fabric stash and found about 15 bright prints of which 12 were big enough to cut a 21" square, so I did! Sewing them up to follow.

I started these hats in mid February, but just completed them today. I’ve not had as much crafty mojo recently as I normally do. Been feeling kind of overwhelmed, but I’m trying to shake it off. (Queue TS to sing me out of it.)

Six hats completed using 258 grams / 676 yards of yarn from stash.

Check-In: How did quarter one go? Did you accomplish what you hoped to? Do you want to create new goals for the months ahead?

I destashed a lot of yarn in the first quarter. I am working on just buying yarn as needed for specific projects. I realized that I got in the habit of buying yarn for stash because I felt the need for instant gratification if I wanted to make something NOW.

Shipping times are not that long for online purchases anymore and I can do other projects while I wait.

I also gave away yarns and kits that I was no longer interested in making.

I hope to apply these same habits to my other stashes this quarter. My actual goal is to be able to all my supplies and stash fit into one room instead of pouring into the guest closet and basement.

I am also on a mission to pass on my finished items. I found places to take blankets and shawls.

Just making it for Q1, I’ve destashed almost all of my partially premade Collar Cozies stash into 105 bookmarks that I will leave small batches of in Little Free Libraries in the vicinity.

I also used stash notions/trims for these and odd & small sizes of fusible interfacing. Then I made holders for them out of the kind of printed cardstock that I have a hard time using otherwise. Used pre-cut labels and a stamp to label the holders.

Last week I finished 12 more neckerchiefs for Jag the neighbor dog! That used up just over 4 square yards of mostly quilting cotton! I haven’t delivered them to him yet.

It already feels so good to have made stash into things, but getting these out of the house will feel even better! Hopefully over the next few weeks!

Considering I haven’t bought any fabric since we lost Joanns I guess anything I sew counts as Stash Crafting these days. And I have been doing a little bit since the new year, just not as much as I used to. Here’s the first few:

The last two are just so cute! I have no idea how you even found such small scale prints at Joann’s! Ours had a lot of novelty prints and sort of old fashioned floral prints.

Adorable! I especially like the 2nd one.
