35mm film experiment

I didn’t know which place to post this, but since it’s on paper I’m putting it in here. I apologize if I’m posting in the wrong section. I also didn’t know what tag to use.

I’d also like to thank @Tapestry for getting me started on doing this by posting the bubbles and paint art she did. It was inspiring and gave me some ideas to try with something I wanted to do.

I hadn’t used my gellipad for a while and wanted to try using a roll of 35mm film I exposed on accident. I didn’t know it was in the old camera my dad had.

I used acrylic ink instead of water colour paint for some and alcohol ink for others. On the gellipad I used Liquitex black acrylic paint and sometimes transparent mixing white which gives it a milky look. Used alcohol ink on the pad too. For the 35mm film I used the rougher, lighter colour side. I found it pulled the paint off the pad better.

For this last one I also used a drawing I had done with a fountain pen. Water had gotten on it and smeared it so I just decided to make the hole thing look kinda like hot trash and smeared water all over it with a brush, then do just a black and white 35mm look to keep the look going. Might try this idea again.

These just came out sooo cool!! I love the first one with all the color and the last one over your drawing. Such a fun experiment. The film worked so well with the gelli plate.

I’m glad everyone likes them. I’ll have to try a drawing again for my next one. Maybe tonight I’ll start working on it.

What a cool way to use film for printing!

They turned out really nice. They would make perfect backgrounds for collage work…maybe using one of your photos as the focal point?

I would love to stitch on it as well…so many ideas for this neat technique!
