It’s pretty random for me & lately focused on improving the house. One day I’ll get back to making things for pleasure.
@Whistlefish did a flower cross-stitch showing when spring flowers bloom which has me thinking about what to plant around the backyard trees this autumn. I’d like a profusion of colourful blossoms before the leaves fill in.
I’m very much a mood crafter. I do cards for quick wins, but otherwise it’s normally whatever swap or present commitment I have next. Left to my own devices without a deadline or specific direction, I tend to flounder.
As for inspiration - pretty much everyone on this site! Though I’d really like to be @jemimah or @Edel when I grow up
.
I work on whatever I’m in the mood for, but lately I’ve been trying to finish WIPs and use up stash. Everyone here makes awesome things! ![]()
Finished a few more projects! Now I’m down to 9 yarn WIPs ![]()
5 - melt the ice hat
6 - black knit shrug
7 - Frankenstein’s monster & cabbage
8 - emotional support chickens
9 - cow dumpling kitty
Yay!
What pattern is the shrug? I have one on my Ravelry list but I like yours better.
Here’s the link: Girls Want to Have Fun (Ravelry link). Other people have pictures of what it looks like when worn. ![]()
Thanks! Did you shorten yours? I want just a bit of coverage for my arms.
I did not - I made size small and the ends of the sleeves hit right at my elbow.
I wish I could figure out how to focus my energy better. I am all over the place when it comes to projects. I get fixated on something like crochet, lose interest, then go back to it. I decided to list some things on our local Buy Nothing FB Group. Hoping that limiting what I have will make me choose more projects with care.
In the meantime, I like fast little projects to keep my mind and hands busy.
My main deciders are swap/craftalong commitments and whim. Sometimes the inspiration comes from YT or LC (pretty sure I’ve accidentally ripped off Carlee’s projects a couple of times) and sometimes from a ridiculous idea that I of course then have to see through.
I’ve been trying to focus on creating for the joy of it and not because I feel like I should, so right now I’m teetering somewhere between “saw online” and “just because” - and of course, those aren’t mutually exclusive! I’ll still stitch for holidays, but it’s a much more laid-back and enjoyable process; none of this sitting up until one in the morning on Christmas day just to finish.
Honestly? I find everyone on here inspiring even if I know I’ll never be able to/have the inclination to work with whatever technique/medium they are. I have a bunch of fun fabrics in my stash, and keep thinking I want to try a simple quilting project like Mistress Jennie’s scrappy mug rugs.
Her tutorials are great and easy to follow, plus, if you get stuck, she is always willing to help.
I am also blown away and inspired by so many people here. I think that is one reason it is hard for me to focus…I want to try all the things! ![]()
I would say that it’s mostly vibes and whatever stash is calling my name at the moment, but so much of my doll dress sewing this year has been for specific requests, and I’m trying to be a little bit strategic for my bookbinding adventures this summer to fit them around travels and other events.
I made my 25th project last night, and managed to photograph it. It’s a punching cradle for bookbinding made out of scraps and off-cuts
I saw another person using this in a video and just thought it was such a useful tool. Did you use a tutorial or just made it to your order?
It came together quickly using this tutorial. And I really should have watched the video all the way through before I started because there’s an even simpler version at the end.
I am pulling a box out of the recycle bin…thanks!
Well, would you look at that…
It was quick and kind of satisfying, if not exactly skilled crafting. But it’s done, and the kit is no longer bouncing around my stash.
It’s occurred to me that I’m not necessarily bad at crafting, just at remembering to record it. Luckydog and I made scented candles back in April, and it took me until earlier this month to get a picture of the final product:
The wax has a bit of a funny mottled look to it, and I don’t know if that’s a function of the colouring or the eco glitter we added on a whim. The finished candles aren’t sparkly, but the wax sure looked neat during the melting process:
For me this is really depending on the type of craft. I always have some ongoing craft projects that I work on to relax. Currently that’s mostly paintings. For many other projects it’s often events or things that I need and rather make myself than buy it.
My inspiration is also depending on the craft. For baking I often go back to my mom’s old recipe books.
For clothes I’m in general inspired by the fabric. I draw up some basic scratch and look online for patterns and ideas that come close it.
For paintings it’s often things I want to try in combination with people close to me telling me: “it would be awesome to have something like…”
I updated my list and I’m currently at 16. There are still some things I didn’t post yet, so I’m hopeful to make it to 50 this year.
Awww. Thank you. You know once of your pieces of art is hanging in my hallway. I see it every day ![]()
That’s neat. I have a punching rig that I bought, but it’s a bit cumbersome this looks good
