Yesterday was our 67th day of school, and the 6-7 phenomenon is still going strong. So, instead of waiting for the 100th day, the principal decided to embrace the whole 6-7 thing and invited staff to wear shirts sporting either a 6, 7, or a 67 in some fashion.
My team had just donned 6 & 7 shirts for Halloween, and I could have just worn that. But, since I was born in 1967, I just had to make a new shirt, which is how I found myself, at 10 pm the night before, cutting a stencil (with scissors!) out of freezer paper and dabbing a layer of multi-surface craft paint onto a brand new shirt. I missed the staff meeting where it was announced, and saw the reminder email Monday afternoon, so I scrambled to pull it together (I already had plans, so I had to start it when I got home at 9:30). Is it the best stenciling job I have ever done? Definitely not, but it kind of gives it a bit of a vintage vibe, right? And, because it’s also in our school colors, it can do double duty down the road!
It was a surprise! There were giant 6-7 balloons in the lobby as they entered in the morning, too. We’ve had a few “underground” spirit days for the teachers, and it’s fun to see how long it takes for the kids to figure it out. But, with the giant balloons, it was an easy one to figure out
Thank you! We started doing the 100 day celebration a couple of years ago, which I always thought of as an elementary school thing. I was surprised at how many kids participated. Sadly, I haven’t been able to get a shirt made for it. That’s not one I can leave to the night before
