A Flock of Prosperity Hens

I chair the sewing booth at our church holiday fair and love to make little sewing projects to sell. This year I went out to the virtual hen house and gathered up some chickens.

Based on a string of hens sent to me by @MightyMitochondria I used up some leftover charm squares and a pack of linen samples. Beads and twine came out of my stash, and I had to buy some bells because I couldn’t unearth any but gigantic ones. Other Lettuce Crafters have made them too. I love the idea of spreading prosperity. And spreading craft ideas all over the place.

Behold the flock.

*“The tradition of prosperity hens finds its roots in various regions across India, each with its unique interpretation and symbolism. In essence, the prosperity hen symbolizes abundance, fertility, and the promise of a bountiful future. It is believed that keeping these ornamental hens in homes brings good luck and prosperity to the household.”* (From ShopNativeOnline.)

A lovely quick and easy, colorful craft! I like the rustic, Prim look. I see you have 6 hens but I guess any # of hens can be added. Surprised that their origin is in India.

Thank you.

I have seen single hens and long strings of them. I chose 6 for convenience and for the rainbow ones. Anything rainbow at the Pride table at the fair sells very well. I wanted a fairly easy make, and I hate making things in multiples. How I made 54 hens, I will never know.

Now on to the 36 catnip balls… almost there.
