While brainstorming monsters for my notecards, I had the idea to create creatures from mashing up the letters in “monster.” I decided to go a different route but didn’t want the legwork I’d done to go to waste, so I repurposed it for a little zine.
I used “monstery” because for my purposes I needed an even number of letters. I folded the base from a saved underpaper and did the title on my ancient label maker (mounted on some washi to pop it out). I’m holding it closed in the photo above…
…because they obviously needed googly eyes. I used the weekly Monster Jam prompts as jumping off points for the coloring/features. Those I did with alcohol marker and gel pen (and googly eyes, obvs).
BTS shot of the original sketches. As you can see, the T-E combo gave me fits.
