I was skimming through photos and realized I never shared the painting I did for my daughter’s room. I painted this when I was pregnant with her, over an old painting from my art school days. I figured I’d never hang up a 30x40 canvas of a naked woman sitting next to a skeleton.
I’ve always loved this poem, and it felt perfect for a little one’s room!
I started by painting the whole thing black with a hint of blue, then roughly sketched where I wanted the words. I painted a base coat for all the words in white, then went over in the colours and added all the little bits and bobs to fill in some space.
I got my husband to take a couple progress shots, including my original decision to make “anything" yellow and then deciding I liked it better in green :
Absolutely gorgeous and the perfect center piece for a room. I hope it becomes a treasured family heirloom. My mother-in-law passed away a few years ago and we made sure that each of our kids got to choose one of her art pieces to have so that they always have something of their grandmother as part of their home.
The bright colors and lettering are perfect and really bring the poem to life. Silverstein was my favorite poet as a kid and still at the top of my list today!
This is such a perfect way to do this. It’s so visually appealing and done really well. It’s very playful and fun. I’m sure it will be very special for your daughter.
Thank you all! It truly was a labour of love, I did it during Covid so it was a fun distraction from both Covid and morning sickness! Haha. It still makes me smile every time I see it.
