A-Through-L wyvern altered tin

I made this for @Bunny1kenobi in the 2025 Winter Book Swap.
The altered tin features the wyvern named A-Through-L from the Fairyland series of books by Catherynne M. Valente. The books were in B1K’s Goodreads “To Read” list and I was intrigued by the artwork. The wyvern is named thus because he is a wyvern-and-library hybrid. Yep, his father was a library. Fantasy novels can do anything!

I did not take in-progress pics, unfortunately. But, I can list the materials:

  • cleaned fish tin base (thank you, @AIMR!)
  • chipboard
  • red ribbon
  • gold cardstock
  • Sakura gel pen
  • page from a book
  • miniature books
  • copied image
  • stamp ink
  • embroidery floss
  • tiny tassels
  • half-dome sticky gems
  • washi tape
  • 3D paint
  • marbled paper

And, if you were wondering, the difference between wyverns and dragons are that wyverns have only two legs versus dragons, who have four.

A miniature shadow box! You really do nice detailed touches like the little tassles and the tiny brads!

I didn’t even know what a wyvern was…now I do!!

I try to add details. It takes a while for me because I ruminate over projects while I sleep. Or I’ll stare at it for a while and think of what I have in my crafty stock plus other projects that I’ve seen. I’m still not at the level that I aspire to, but when I look back on projects from when I first joined “the old site” I can definitely see the progress.

I think this is gorgeous! It is hanging on my office art wall, where it can get daily appreciation!

Thank you, I love it!

I love, love, love it! What a beautiful altered tin. The tiny details are perfection and those little tassles just slay me.

Wyverary! I made one of those once, many years ago… (mine was a little book, tho)

This is so cool! You got quite a bit of detail on that little tin!
