Abstract embroidery - high five challenge

I was so blown away by the creativity during the latest abstract embroidery swap that I decided to make another piece, this time for the challenge.

Since wood is the traditional 5th anniversary gift, I tried to brainstorm how I could incorporate wood into my embroidery piece. The idea of an abstract embroidery resembling the rings of a piece of cut wood was born. I created this using 5 colors of embroidery floss and used a faux wood hoop for the frame. I plan on listing this little piece for this fall’s STS.

It was so much fun to make! Thanks for chrecking it out!

Clever thinking out of the box! They do remind me of the rings of a tree! It is a lovely piece!

So striking! I love the slight wonkiness to the rings.

@megwell and I were totally brainstorming traditional anniversary gift ideas on the high five zoom!

I like your 5th anniversary-wood theme. The 5 rings are mesmerizing, in the rainbow colors, the undulating shapes and the graduated sizes. This needlework piece could depict a radiating sun or a deep galaxy. Nice satin stitch!

Oh yes, I can see that too. The faux wood hoop is the outer bark and the embroidery shows the growing rings inside the slice of wood. As someone else said, very clever!

Ooo, mesmerizing! The colors are the ombre ones in the little LC scissors icon! Light blue for the thread title link. Heh, that’s what I’m seeing when I look at it.
I also see raygun zaps coming towards me. This is the brilliance of the abstract.
I opened a vintage address book at an antique store and the inner cover had a list of all the traditional anniversary gifts. I knew there were a few, but it was a long list. Did it have flowers and gems for birthday months as well? I want to say yes.
I also agree, the stitching is so even, wow!
