Altered Ladies Galentine's Day Cards

For this year’s Galentine’s swap, I decided to alter some prefab notecards I had in stash.

I distressed the surface with an old emery board, patches of clear gesso, tearing up bits of the image – I was making it up as I went along . I brayered over the surface with various neutral colors of craft paint, trying to avoid the faces but just wiping it away if necessary. Then lots of chunky bright splatters.

Here are a few progress shots, including the original card:

For the sentiments, I went to the O.G. (Original Galentine) herself, Leslie Knope. These seemed to fit the vibe I wanted for Galentines.

Thanks for looking!

I never thought to go over all those freebie cards I keep getting in the mail! They are not my taste so I usually pitch them in recycle…duh…these are fun and way more artistic!

Thanks, friends! For once something turned out mostly like it looked in my head.

Also, as promised, I’ve added the unaltered-card photo to the original post.

Very cool cards and technique!
