I had seen altered spools done with fabric before. But when I was looking through smmarrt’s pinterest for the happy mail swap I saw paper based ones and knew I had to make one myself. I had a bunch of wooden spools from my grandma and decorated the top with some metal gears and a thimble charm.
I made a long strip of paper and decorated and wrapped around the spool. Ignore the mess in the background!

I bought it on clearance and even as I bought it I was thinking - what are you even going to do with it? Why are you buying this? And instead of throwing it in a box of random bits I put it on a shelf of my craft table so i could see it and not forget about it. So when I pulled out my spools I was like - oh!
