Ami Plant Kit

I got this kit as a present, and I thought I’d give my thoughts on it…

First off, it turned out okay, though I made some modifications to make it stand up well…

For the pot I cut circles of carboard for the bottom to give it an even surface to sit on, and then I weighted the pot instead of just using fiberfill.

My biggest beef with the kit was the weirdness of their color references, they use “Color A” and “Color B” … etc, instead of just saying “Light Green,” “Dark Green,” “White”… this just meant I had to keep consulting the legend, which was in an odd place on the instructions.

So I had to redo part of the pot because I’d used the wrong color. Ooops.

For a plastic hook, this one was not bad! It seemed to be a slightly “off” size, so using a traditional G hook gave me a slightly different gauge. The little plastic needle is absolute rubbish. The yarn quality was just okay.

There were places you can totally see the wire edging, which a thicker, heftier yarn might have helped with.

Also crocheting over that wire was really unwieldy. But in the end, I thought it was a good enough product to give to a coworker, so I can’t completely discount the kit. Would I buy it? No, I have the yarns and it’s cheaper (obviously) to work from stash. Is it a fun gift to give to a beginner crocheter? Sure.

It came out soo cute!!!

The result is super cute! I appreciate your candid assessment of the kit.

As someone who can’t crochet, it looks adorable and I am sure your co-worker loves it.

Very cute!!

I love that little fiber plant, so cute. Nice review. Those kits are usually a little janky, but hopefully inspire newbies to grow :seedling:
