Armadillo Christmas

I made this armadillo ornament for @RagingSloth in the Ongoing Ornament Swap.

The base is a wooden blank that I painted with black watercolor ground. Then I created the main painting with acrylic gouache. I realllllllllly should have just sealed it and walked away…but I decided this would be a great time to use some UV resin for a polished look. Sigh. There are some bubbles and it’s not as perfect as I prefer. In the end I sent it hoping RagingSloth would like it warts and all. But I’m still kicking myself over the resin.

Process pics (I only snapped 2, uncharacteristically):

If it’s hanging, no one will see what you see…only a cute little armadillo! I love seeing how you layer your paints to get the final image.

This is lovely, and I don’t see any bubbles. (We’re our own worst critics!) Both the armadillo and cactus-as-Christmas-tree are super cute!

Thank you, @AIMR, @wittychild, @bethntim, @Abbeeroad, @gozer!

@RagingSloth - I’m so relieved you like it. The handful of tiny bubbles and imperfections drive me bats. I’ll be practicing with my UV resin technique a lot between now and next year’s swap. I hadn’t done such a large surface area with resin before.

I seriously don’t notice them! But if it helps I use a heat gun to get rid of bubbles.

I can’t see the bubbling you mention. It looks so good and one of a kind!! The armadillo is such a star!
