Every year towards the end of March Make A Wish of Central and Northern Florida hosts a Walk For Wishes where we raise money to grant wishes to local kids and their families. I started volunteering on the committee 3 years ago and when asked what I could contribute I said well I love to bake so I’d love to bake cookies to give away. This spawned Bake A Wish! Every year since I have made cookies and every year we give all of them away. It’s a wonderful cause and I’m so blessed to be part of such a wonderful group
Using my fave cookie recipe I made 499 cookies. I kicked myself for not making it to 500!
Basic cookie recipe:
1 box cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 cup oil
Whatever mix ins you want!
Mix all ingredients and roll out into 1 inch balls, flatten slightly with your palm and bake at 350 for 8 minutes. Cool slightly.
For example strawberry cake mix with half a bag of white chocolate chips, chocolate cake mix with chocolate chips, vanilla cake mix with maple extract and pecans. The possibilities are endless and the cookies are delish!
What an awesome achievement. My daughter is a MaW kid (she’ll be 21 in May and had her wish at 8), and we’re so grateful to MaW and still treasure that time.
Her wish was to be a zookeeper for a day. She got to feed a baby Panda named Mr. Woo at the San Diego zoo and feed and pet a bunch of different animals (like a wombat and an okapi).
What a wonderful and bountiful contribution! You must have quite a system and procedure set up going to get these all done and ready to go. I just know that next year you can hit 501 to make it average out to 500 for 2 years.
What a great cause! Those cookies sound delightful!
My airline has rolled out the red carpet for lots of MaW kids, as the official airline of Disneyland. Several of our planes have Disney themed paint jobs (liveries) that are often on the request list for MaW (can’t imagine why )! So this cause is near and dear…!
Don’t kick yourself over the number, I think 499 is a much more interesting number than 550. It makes people wonder if there any special meaning behind it
It’s a great thing you are doing!
I love that you do this and I imagine that the people who get to enjoy your cookies, love it even more! I know you say you’re blessed to be part of the group, but I have to say, they are just as blessed to have you as part of the group. What a great donation of your time and skills!
Also, I am really looking forward to trying this recipe! I like the tastiness of boxed cake mix and I really like the idea of turning it into a cookie!! I picked up some strawberry cake mix and chocolate chips.
